Default Malik Beasley Under Investigation for Betting on NBA games.

Yikes. Luckily, he's a free agent but Pistons were close to a new 3 yr. deal with him, which is obviously on hold. He apparently gambled on games and prop bets in 2023-4, the year before joining the Pistons. They really need him back but if he's suspended it would open the door for Hardaway to return.

Very unfortunate. Especially after the year he had, when he finished 2nd in 3-pointers made with 319. This allegedly happened when he was with the Bucks. It's probably why they drafted Chaz Lanier to possibly cover themselves in case they lose both THJ and Beasley. Later today, Free Agency begins in earnest.

Well he could be totally 'caught-up' with physical threats as this story alleges:

NBA Star Dillon Brooks Files Restraining Order After His Baby Mama Heather Andrews Threatens to Cut Off His Fingers...

lol. That article must have been written by AI. Whatever happened to editors?

Here is a paragraph from it:

The court complaint, made public earlier this week, outlines a volatile relationship that began in 2018 when the two men first met in a Las Vegas club. The relationship, Brooks claims, got wild about a month after Andrews became pregnant with their first child. Despite an initial flurry of red flags, Brooks says he continued to see Andrews, and the couple had a second child together.

I am almost 'who cares' on this issue. It is so ironic and dated now that sports betting so rampant. Try turn on a radio or TV, especially during sporting events, and you'll be inundated with sports betting ads.

Since Fanduel took over TV broadcasting of Tigers game they inject annoying non-stop odds, outside of the between-innings ad space, during play to display quick bets that can be made instantly on their app. "Riley Greene HR: +600 Cole Keith: +1000. Odds subject to change."

The question with Beasley is if he bet on games he played in, which should be a violation. Other than that why should anyone care about what he chooses to gamble on. But we can only speculate as no formal allegations have been made and no charges filed as of yet.

The Red Wings are also on Fanduel, and the same types of ads are being run there. They have long passed the point of annoyance and it makes all of the rules about of players not gambling look silly.

I don't like all the betting sites either and understand your attitude. The problem is, these guys aren't always just betting on "legit" sites by themselves. Jontay Porter of the Raptors and others got into debt and then compromised his play to pay it off. It's a very slippery slope.

Edit: Now more is coming to light. Beasley owed everybody. These guys are living a totally different life and some don't handle it well:

Well, it appears Beasley had financial issues and is being sued for non-payments. He's made over 60 million dollars for his career. Talk about being reckless..

Did you see my post above? Det. News article is very in depth. Heck he's even being sued by Dan Gilbert's company for back rent at the Stott. A fellow NBA owner, how awkward is that?

It's behind a Detroit News paywall. So I didn't sign up. Both are explaining the pickle he's in. His NBA career is in jeopardy unless he's cleared. The article I posted is from the Free Press.

Great point. All sports have got in bed with gambling, and I don't know why they didn't think this wouldn't cause problems.

That's weird. It's not paywalled for me and I just clicked on it again. I don't have sub. and most articles are paywalled.

It asked me to subscribe to read it. No thanks. Chalk it up to technology I guess. It can get weird sometimes.

^ The New York Times is like that. I've had subs in the past and so they still send my articles -- some behind the wall one minute, free to view the next.
