Default Detroiter's YOLO/ Doom Spending - Or not?

Social media is replete of stories of folks taking a YOLO [you only live once] approach to expenses. Also known as 'Doom Spending' [extreme spending knowin' you don't have it]. Across the country personal credit card debt is exploding with new options such as Klarna credit lines for Doordash food orders etc. Umm, like really?

^ LOL! I just came back from a bit of 'doom spending' buying some items and food from Whole Foods. What was I thinking?

I did NOT put the purchase on a credit card thankfully.

^Yeah, if you're financing hyper-inflated burgers and fries you're in trouble.

Financing should be relegated to the big necessities if needed. You have some financing vacations too! I have been tempted......

I don't know why people are so addicted to door dash. Make your own food or get it yourself, it's not hard.

Yes, for most people. Some folks who are legitimately homebound need delivery though. Fortunately for them there are many more delivery services since Covid.

Some was borne out of the COVID lockdowns. But when you look at the added costs, delivery mark-ups, taxes etc. it's not worth it.

Hard on the drivers end too! Difficult to make real money doing Door Dash. Not to mention the inevitable wear and tear on your car!

Yep. Two people I know including myself were home-bound for elective surgeries and the grocery delivery option was a bonus!

When I grew up in the ghettos of Detroit in the 1980 and 1990's. It's hello or YOLO!
