Detroit soccer club seeks $15M to complete $50M equity raise for new stadium
https://www.crainsdetroit.com/real-e...re-new-stadiumThe Detroit City FC soccer organization is looking to raise another $15 million as its final bucket of equity for a new stadium in southwest Detroit.
The $15 million raise, revealed in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing Tuesday, would bring the team to $50 million in equity after it secured $10 million in a March equity raise and had previously privately secured an undisclosed $25 million in equity. The $15 million tranche seeks investors willing to commit a minimum of $250,000, according to the filing. The previous $10 million raise sought a minimum of $500,000 from investors.
Sean Mann, co-owner, co-founder and CEO of Detroit City FC, said Thursday that the $15 million raise is expected to be the final tranche. “By filing this, we can start collecting checks on conversations we’ve been having here as things come together for the project,” Mann said.
Detroit City FC, which has men’s, women’s and youth soccer clubs, has been assembling land around Michigan Avenue and 20th Street in southwest Detroit for over a year for the large-scale project, kicking off in March 2024 with the $6.5 million purchase of the to-be-razed former Southwest Detroit Hospital site.
best of success.
A lot of the parking was on residential streets on homeowner's lots. They would charge you and watch your car. That's the way we used to park, I don't ever remember doing it any other way. There are lots of private lots surrounding the site, both west of 75 and between Slow's and the Corner Ballpark. People will be selling spaces and easily accomodate the parking needs. As you stated, the bars will also run shuttles. If you drove around near Michigan & Trumbull you'd never believe 50,000 people used to find parking.
Yep. Back when the earth cooled that's how parking overflow was for events/ concerts at the 'red barn' [Olympia Stadium]!
let's go! more urban Detroit kids getting into football/soccer, hopefully.
^^ That's been part of DCFC's operations for a while now.

Detroit City FC Partnering with HOK on New Stadium Design
United Soccer League Championship club Detroit City FC has chosen HOK to lead the design of its 15,000–seat stadium in southwest Detroit, which is expected to open for the 2027 United Soccer League season.
“This partnership with HOK marks an exciting new chapter for our stadium project and DCFC,” said Sean Mann, chief executive officer of DCFC. “This stadium represents more than a home for our club — it’s a testament to the passion and resilience of our supporters and the spirit of our city. “As one of the first major projects led by a new generation of Detroiters, we take immense pride in creating a place where our community can gather and celebrate for years. We look forward to working with an industry leader like HOK to bring this vision to life.”
The city’s first soccer-specific stadium will be constructed on the abandoned site of the former Southwest Detroit Hospital. HOK’s design will include a community hub that bridges downtown Detroit between the Corktown and Southwest neighborhoods. Beyond match days, Detroit City FC envisions the stadium supporting economic development in the neighborhoods.

I miss the days of well-edited news articles. The stadium is not going to be built on the “abandoned site of the former Southwest Detroit Hospital.” It’s going to be built on the site of the abandoned former hospital.
HOK is announced as the architect...so there will be changes to the renderings we've seen so far, at least I would expect.
The original renderings we were seeing I thought were from Progressive Companies, so bringing on HOK this LATE in the process would assume minimal changes, but there will likely be some. There's always some changes.
I'm VERY skeptical that it'll be open in time for the 2027 season at this rate. Has there been any demolition yet of the hospital?
HOK is the predominant architect for most new major league stadiums and arenas. I'm a little surprised they are doing a stadium this size. They won't come cheap.

That thing should have been demolished already
