Default Ono quits U of M for Florida

This guy signs a long-term extension with a hefty raise then bolts for Florida. No concerns about DEI policies down there.

LOL! Every time I think of that I go to Google Maps to enter a technical correction to their map. The link's in fine print at the bottom toward the right of the map. I just tell them it's misspelled and give them the correct spelling as if it were any other error.

I mean if they can't fix their product, what good is it to anyone anyway? LOL!

!'m off to Google Maps now.

There’s bound to be a wise guy who puts it down as Murrica.

It would have been better to rename it The Gulf of America 180 years ago.

When Texas became part of the USA, more than 1/2 of the gulf's shoreline was in the United States.

And Mexico is one of the three "Americas", So really, the entire continental shoreline is in "America".

^ Yep. Many things have been renamed by presidents over the years:

Several landmarks and geographical features have been renamed after U.S. presidents, including streets, roads, highways, and even a mountain and a sea. The Ronald Reagan Library notes that Ronald Reagan's name was given to a portion of Denton Road leading to the Dothan Regional Airport in Alabama, and a 70-mile portion of Interstate Highway 65 in Alabama. The White House also mentions the renaming of Mount McKinley to Denali in 2015, and the Gulf of America was renamed to the Gulf of Mexico in 2025. Additionally, numerous streets and roads have been renamed after Barack Obama.

    More examples here...

    Barack Obama:
Several streets and roads have been renamed in his honor, including Obama Way in Seaside, California, Obama Boulevard in Los Angeles, and President Barack H. Obama Highway in Glendale, Pasadena, and Los Angeles, California.
    Ronald Reagan:
A section of Denton Road leading to the Dothan Regional Airport in Alabama and a portion of Interstate Highway 65 in Alabama were renamed after him.
    Mount McKinley:
While not renamed in the traditional sense, it was formerly named after the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley. The current name is Denali.
    Denali:
The name of the highest peak in North America was formerly Mount McKinley, but was renamed Denali.
    Gulf of America:
The name of the Gulf of Mexico was changed to Gulf of America by Executive Order in 2025.

Board rejects Santa Ono for University of Florida president’s position

The Florida Board of Governors on Tuesday voted down a motion to approve former University of Michigan President Santa Ono as the next president of the University of Florida.Ono faced intense conservative pushback, primarily over his previous views on diversity, equity and inclusion.
It is the first time in the board of governors’ 20-year history that members have overturned a university’s presidential selection. The motion to approve Ono failed on a 10-6 vote. The vote came quickly after a long, meandering afternoon board meeting that lasted more than 3.5 hours. Members of the Florida Board of Governors spent much of the time asking Ono to defend his previous support on diversity, equity and inclusion, pulling up dated references to various things he had said in support of it.During a long line of questioning, board of governors Vice Chair Alan Levine, a former member of the UF board of trustees, noted that Ono had applauded the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the consideration of race and admissions in 2016, tweeting that a “holistic review can diversify campuses and the future workforce.”

^ Sure there is. Depends on what area. Such as the panhandle. But too flat-landed, tons of bugs, flooding and alligators for me.

And the depreciation of their Condos! Forget it.

    And structural issues remain...

Horrible, Santo Ono has been tricked by Charlie Kirk's supporters. All because of his D.E.I. principles. He is so saddening that our free country is not free. But a fascist constitutional republic.

    Americans had become Romans!

I hope that U. of Michigan can get a better president. And resist any MAGA candidates for the board of governors.

"We believe in inclusion, which means we include everyone who agrees with us." [[This mocks the idea of inclusion that is conditional on conforming to a specific viewpoint).

^ Hah! Some of the four-year colleges and universities ARE seeing declines in enrollment and other assumed funding as more say NO.

It's all coming down. How could it go on? The dropping birth rate is having some impact as well...

I guess those tenured and soon retiring will be ok.
