Default Siren Goes Off for Siren Hotel

The renovated Wurlitzer Building Siren Hotel, "an elegant boutique hotel in downtown Detroit is in the crosshairs of Huntington Bank after its owners allegedly defaulted on a loan.

"Huntington National Bank on Monday sued a dozen individuals and limited liability companies that are connected to The Siren, six-room hotel at 1509 Broadway, claiming the bank is owed about $8.1 million.

"Huntington Bank, in the lawsuit, asks Wayne County Circuit Court to appoint a receiver for the hotel - the 99-year-old Wurlitzer Building - so the building can be protected and potentially put up for sale." Free Press today

A six-room hotel! One room must cost a fortune. Did you mean sex-room?

It's 106 but, anyway, I'm still surprised at how so many boutique hotels have opened downtown. It's not that the total number of rooms aren't needed in the city, it's the fact these properties don't have any major chain affiliation. A lot of leisure travellers do shop the 3rd party websites but there's still an advantage to being part of Marriott, Hilton, etc. when booking business travel and groups and keeping the occupancy rate decent during slow periods. You really need a good marketing person to make a boutique hotel successful.

Okay, thanks. 106 is more like the No-tell Motel that I patronize.

I’m still surprised that the Wurlitzer [[and the Metropolitan) managed to avoid the wrecking ball. They were both in such bad shape.

Yeah, I can hear the sirens too.

    WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWO!!!!!

Result of poor mismanagement. Maybe Dan Gilbert will by the Wurlitzer Building and keep the boutique hotel business going like the Shinola Boutique Hotel.

Feel like this would be better off as apartments or condos.

My wife and I stayed there a few years ago. Very nice place with a cool vibe! Hope it stays open.

Those places don't need a lot of rooms, they rent out the same room 10 times a day.
