I thought they had been living in it since Nov 24. My question is, if the van broke down because it ran out of gas in the casino garage, how did the kids die of carbon monoxide poisoning?

Perhaps the van was running, they die of CO poisoning, the van keeps running until it runs out of gas? Dunno

I am always aware when I'm sitting with the engine ruunning which direction the wind of coming from.

Cabin air / heat comes from the windshield cowl in most cars. So you want to park mostly into the wind. But if they were there for days, the wind could have shifted.

Sad.

With all the social services, state checks etc,.. has it been revealed why they were living in a van?

The last big snowstorm we had in Montreal, a guy started shoveling round his car, then sat in it to warm up. He may have snoozed off, the back of his car, and thus the muffler were stuck in a snowbank. He died from CO poisoning.
