Bohemian women's clothing retailer Free People to open a store in downtown Detroit

The women's clothing retailer Free People is opening a store on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit.

The store will be located at 1425 Woodward Ave., according to job postings on Free People's website for positions such as a store manager and a stylist and a sign posted in the window of the storefront, in the space that used to be home to the Busted Bra Shop.

Free People representatives didn't immediately respond to an email asking when the store is expected to open. It will be located in a Bedrock-owned building called The Lofts at Merchant Row, a 61,000-square-foot building that includes stores such as the Nike Community Store and restaurant The Hudson Cafe.

Forever 21 is closing most of their stores and is on the verge of bankruptcy for the 2nd time. Adidas announced last month they will be closing stores this year as they switch more to online. Care to try again?

Yep. Shein and Amazon etc. as the expression goes are 'killin' it' regarding clothing and shoes etc. Quality varies of course but more are choosing online shopping. And there's that thing called TEMU [coming on board fast] but most of that stuff is crap!

I don't understand getting clothes online. I need to try everything on before I buy it. I've never ordered clothing.

I don't either but it's amazing how many people will order two pairs of shoes if they're not sure of the size and then send one back. That's how so much stuff ends up in landfills. It's cheaper than restocking, especially cheap clothes.

That's what I do. I'm not too bound or impressed with buying a Lululemon, Free People or Chico's sleeveless tank top for $49.99+ when I can get a resale designer Evan Picone used, excellent condition at the resale shop for ten! Buy, wash and wear! I also assist a clothing pantry for those in need so buying things to give away free is one of my hobbies! Value World is my favorite spot!

It takes effort to buy used but you learn that quality and branding is sometimes connected. But the expense of new designer brand shops can by very high.

I also like the idea of recycling clothing. But like tires I prefer my shoes new.

Yeah, that's a problem. I've learned the sizing of favorite brands for my body type [short - waisted, plus size, moderately tall] such as Clark brand shoes. So I rarely have to return anything. Or I give away the item not fitting.

That sound like some of the beauty supply stores that sell stuff like that along with costume jewelry and what not -- along with the beauty items!

Ahhh. Late 90s to middle
2010s. The Millender Center had a couple of the shops. The support that the Somerset Collection pop up shop had gotten the ball rolling on chain retailers opening along Woodward.
