Michigan law explicitly prevents municipalities from declaring bankruptcy. Had it not been for this, several suburbs would have long gone bankrupt [[including Hamtramck).
Detroit was the lone exception to this law, only because it was a State-appointed Emergency Manager [[who happened to also be a bankruptcy lawyer) that declared and managed it.

You will never know how the Michigan's future or its laws will change. One day the ridiculous SBC Laws will be overturned. And voters in their townships, cities and villages can decide to amalgamate. Most townships cannot stay townships forever. As along human progress develops.
