    Default Civic Art Treasures

I wonder if there is a single department that is responsible for the inventory and keeping track of City's many monuments and sculptures? What do you suppose the total number of them are, which I assume are scattered throughout the City. These photos of the ones on the Old City County Building serve to remind me how rich this city once was and what treasures it still possesses.

I do not believe the city of Detroit ever owned the Wayne County Building.

not sure who owns it now, but it ain’t Wayne County nor City of Detroit.

As far as maintaining the statuary in parks, it the Parks Department. If you are asking if someone is the tsar of the ministry of statuary, I believe the answer is “no one”.

I am under the opinion that the City County building is now known as the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building.

    Am I incorrect?

The county sold the building off several years ago and leased it back for a period of time until they moved all operations to the Guardian Bldg. The building is presently owned by 12B Properties LLC of Great Neck, NY.
