Donald Trump has never hid his digust for traditional Democrat strongholds or black majority cities like Detroit. My best guess, for what its' worth, is that the next mayor will need the diplomatic skills of Henry Kissinger to keep Trump's wrath from raining down on Detroit.

How did "Trump's wrath" rain down on Detroit during his previous term? Mayor Duggan made progress all through his tenancy as Mayor.

Seems like lofty goals. Is he planning for the city to open and operate grocery stores, as well as develop new housing? There is a reason private companies aren't opening these stores and building housing here...

I hope he means "I plan on fixing the issues that prevent grocery stores from opening and prevent developers from building new houses".

Unlike Coleman Young whom called President Reagan “Prune Face” Mayor Duggan knew and know how to break bread with Trump to get what Detroit the assistance that it need from the Feds. Duggan didn’t have this “Detroit vs Everybody” when running this city. Detroit can’t afford to use that concept and remain an island unto itself.

...or afford to keep developing with "Detroit residents" top of mind. We need housing, retial, offices, etc targeted towards those who don't live in the city and hopefully bring them in. Population growth above all, and way above shuffling current resdients around.

Improving the transit system in Detroit and allowing SMART to operate within Detroit city limits pass 5 or 6pm. I once caught the SMART 610 bus, which is still a busy line, to St Clair Shores from downtown Detroit where I live. That bus ran into the city until 8 at night. My friends used that same line to travel from St Clair Shores to downtown Detroit to go to a hockey or baseball game at night. They saved money on gas and parking. The next Mayor should learn how to work together with the surrounding suburbs to improve on the transit systems. Detroit will bring in more money from the community abroad to support the events, games, and retail in Detroit especially in the downtown midtown area

Solomon Kinloch Jr. is a pastor of Triumph Church in Detroit East Side and Southfield, MI. where the old Northland Theater used to be. And does have to TV Evangelism on WDIV Channel 4 every Sunday afternoon. I'm not sure if has the political step to run for Mayor of Detroit. He is better doing his preaching in his mega church locations than getting into politics.

^ To detail this Solomon Kinloch Jr. is the senior pastor of five churches/ campuses [see info links below]. I attended one of his churches during a funeral and have friends/ fam that attend two of his churches. Quite a large responsibility and I am concerned how he would effectively manage mayoral responsibilities of a large city [Detroit] additionally.

Jesus might tell Rev. Kinloch Jr. That you cannot serve two masters. You either love one and hate the other. He can't run for Mayor of Detroit and be a preacher at the same time. Otherwise, he might love the world more and skip church. Or deal with church business and forget about being mayor. This is a dangerous tactic for him. And he must decide soon.

Preach your flock or preach the cult of the world.

Jesus did say that the world hates me, but I must save my people in the world.

Interesting turn of events, surprised it took him this long.

Dude went full MAGA and now wants to be the mayor of Detroit. Kindly fuck off, Craig.

I don't know Sheffield personally, but - after quite a few conversations - I've heard very few good things about her from respected people. Nobody wants her to be mayor.

Really hoping we get some new additions to the field. Right now it's looking...not great.

I do not hate the guy, but I cannot get past his claim of getting carjacked 5 minutes after arriving in town to become police chief. I didn't believe it back then; I still don't believe it. The guy just seems disingenuous to me. However, as I mentioned, I don't hate him.

    And this one:

US City Mayors questioned on their spending...

I want the newly elected mayor to have the ability to give non-parsing yes or no answers [for example re. non-audited immigrants] or account for spending better than these city mayors choose to!

Worried yet, that we end up with one of these loons, more concerend about "social justice" than the betterment and protection of citizens?

Detroit will be fortunate if its next mayor does as well at protecting its citizens as Michelle Wu does.

Boston has more people than Detroit [[quite a change from when I was a kid) and last year had 24 homicides, the lowest number since 1957. Detroit is getting much better, hats off to the DPD and Mayor Duggan, but last year still had 203.

Yep, ok. But regardless of her 'trash' factors, the mayoral responses here
[to most of the questions posed] were inadequate to their core responsibilities and pledges to the constituents who voted them in. They own that.

Our new elected mayor must do better and that must be demanded.

Uh-eh, shouldn't be but we see in Chicago and NYC for instance the two are quite exclusive.

I'm not worried about Detroit. It has had only a few good mayors over the years. What's the probability that its next mayor won't be a clown or a crook?

The clowns are already here. and running.

The current candidates leave a lot to be desired.

I'm not a big fan of Dennis Archer Jr. - seems [[[[[[y - but he's well-engrained in the business community and seems to be relatively respected by many. Wouldn't mind him jumping in.

He will be the number 1 top pick if he does decide to run. He was instrumental on getting the Meyer to open on Jefferson when the plans was dead in the water after the connected condos debacle

Wow. Nine and counting now. I don't see anyone with a distinct lead. In a race where only two get to punch tickets for the finals, even less than 25% might be enough.
