Default Detroit's Next Mayor, Worried Yet?

Articles like this one in the Freep today remind me how much better we have it under Duggan than most cities. He has staked out a very moderate position focusing on the benefit and growth of the cith rather than toeing the Democratic party line and bowing to the outrage mob. I am deeply concered about who will replace him and what their policies will be.

Last thing we need is a Mayor visiting Africa, even if the city's NOT burning to the ground...

Well she did manage to get the Hair act passed. Gotta have priorities.

But,you already have 1 progressive in Washington that is censored and The city has not had a voice there and still this year you still do not have a voice.

Nothing ummm wrong with progressive but the city taxpayers have to have deep pockets in order to support all of that, and the ratio of deep pockets has to outweigh the ones without ,are you there yet?

Detroit need a Mayor who could continue to move the city forward but not overtaxed long time residents out of their homes. A Mayor who will bring retail and businesses into the downtown midtown area but not shut out all national chain. A Mayor who could take Detroit into a new direction when it come to industries and not just giving factories communities that they could tear down for expansion

Hell - Start or thread ?

I could move up there and run for mayor and help you guys make Detroit Great Again, but under the condition of only during the summer months.

If it’s below 50 degrees you are on your own.

For a Dem I think the current mayor has done a hell of a job, hopefully whoever replaces him can carry that forward and continue to grow the city in a positive way.

We'll be OK as long as Reverend Kwame sticks with his new grift.

I have no rooting interest, but spoke to two separate knowledgeable folks last week that said Sheffield should absolutely not be the next mayor. Basically that she simply doesn't remotely understand how anything actually operates/works. Her rise wasn't based on merit.

Would love for Gilchrist to jump in, but apparently he thinks the gig is beneath that of LG.

    C'mon Garlin.

I'm worried about Coleman Young II and Shanteel Jenkins right now.

And that will be Mary Sheffield. I will support her!

I've been reluctant to invest in the city, knowing that Duggan is leaving and the next mayor is unlikely to be able to maintain the city's momentum into the next term. None of the candidates, so far, have Duggan's political carefulness or experience with operations and management - two qualities that I think Duggan has used to great effect.

I will vote for a candidate who doesn't have name legacy in Detroit. The eonly exception to the rule hasn't made an announcement to whether join the race or not. Candidates that have name legacies are usually pushed into running for by their parent who usually tried to control that politician's policies from behind the scene. Detroiters had a history of voting by name recognition or voting The Black Slate which had destroyed this city over the past 50 years including the Detroit Public School System. What endorsements had those whom already had announced their bids received? The answer will be telling to which direction each candidate would take Detroit if elected.

The ratio of the ones with deep pockets will probably lean in a totally different direction than in the supportive direction of the announced candidates currently running for Mayor unless one of the candidates fall in line with that ratios vision and interests for the city.

That means you are worried that the next mayor of Detroit will be black and can't handle the hoods and the gentrified economic and regional development, well get used to it. Detroit is majority black. Now let's see we can elect a first black female Detroit mayor like Mary Sheffield.

For she is going to MAKE DETROIT GREAT AGAIN.

    Hey folks in the hoods.

What is next Detroit mayor would be?

    1. The one that take our city back to 1970s Coleman Young Era?

    2. The one who take our city back to gentrified sell out?

    3. The one who take city back to throwing Manoogian Parties?

Whatever Detroiters decide who their next mayor will be. It better be the one that acts like Mike Duggan.

    I totally agree.

I don't want someone who has spent their entire life only working for a "Can't Fail" entity. Let me explain.

Duggan had many jobs that required him to perform or get fired. He had to manage huge operations and somehow make them successful. That took many skills and many connections outside of churches and block clubs like these clowns have.

People that have only worked for the government, i.e. city council, which "Can't Fail" because no matter how stupid they are, they will probably get reelected; or THAW, an entity that "Can't Fail" because it relies on government aid and donations, should not be mayor. I don't want simply a school board member because once again, that's a "Can't Fail" entity because no matter how stupid you are, as long as you're a loudmouth, you'll keep your position.

That's the problem in the city. We look at loudmouths and popular people because they may have a civic connection [[pastor's daughter) or came from a "Can't Fail" entity. That does not mean they are capable of being mayor. Ask yourself when comparing candidates: Does the candidate's entire background and success come from a "Can't Fail" entity? If it does, we should not consider them experienced enough to be mayor of Detroit.

Yes vote for me and I promise a street car on every block.

Cant say chicken in every pot because at the rate eggs are increasing by the time the election rolls around chicken is probably going to end up at $700 per pound.

The guy sitting in the middle on the city council meetings seems pretty level headed and reasonable ,that may be enough, but the current mayor is leaving some pretty big shoes to fill .

I am sure the king makers have somebody in mind already though. They are not going to risk repeating the past.

Gilchrist In Detroit and Duggan in Lansing would be perfect partnership that would get the whole state fired up on property tax cuts. This time for all. Not just old people who never sell their homes.

What are some of the accomplishments that Sheffield had done in her district that will qualify her to be a good Mayor of the City of Detroit?
