    Default Old Detroit fire photos

I have a cigar box full of old snapshots of Detroit fires, some dating back to the 1930's. My step-dad was a "fire chaser". Even had a DFD license plate. He was an acquaintance of Bill Eisner who also photographed my sister's wedding in the late 70's. The handwriting on the back of most [[with date and area of fire) looks to be my step-dad's but some could also be Eisners [[only one is stamped with his name) I'm looking to donate them....not to someone who would resell them. I could do that myself.

Any suggestions on where to donate them? A place that they would be archived and/or displayed.

I would suggest Wayne State or the Detroit Historical Museum.

Members of the Detroit Fire Department carry the crucifix out of Our Lady of Sorrows [[Belgian) Catholic Church after they were unable to stop a fire from destroying the building. The fire started at, and also destroyed, the Briggs Manufacturing Plant directly adjacent to the church. The church was located at Meldrum & Benson on Detroit's east side. -Detroit News photo courtesy Walter P. Reuther Library Wayne State University.

I passed this inquiry on to veteran Free Press Bill McGraw who wrote Eisner's obit.

He replied, "As or your question. Bill Eisner, as you might know, died before Xmas. He left a massive archive that is being curated by a former firefighter who worked with Bill before he got sick. I’ll contact him and ask if he’d like what the Detroit Yes member is talking about."

Thanks so much. As mentioned, I believe my step-dad took most of the photo's but a few are from Eisner. I appreciate passing it along
