Default So Glad the Auto Show is back to its Winter Home

I thought the move to warm seasons was a good idea. It wasn't. The show got lost amid all the summer activities and having venues all over the place.

I'm so glad it's back to the quiet days of winter and all in one place. I look forward to visiting it. Anybody else going?

I'm going because I'll be in Detroit for a Pistons game and it's a way to kill a couple of hours. The move to summer was hoped to combat the decline of auto shows in general, partly due to the lack of vehicle introductions. Hard to get excited about a bunch of suv's, cuv's and pick-ups.

I'm curious if folks are excited about the auto show. Personally, it feels to me like it use to be an exciting thing, but now its just back to a trade show, which may not even be all that necessary, considering modern communication technology. I hope I am wrong and the show has a bright future. What say insiders?

Having the Auto show back in January will be the excellent way to lure more people into this event that almost lost its flare.

I am glad to see the Auto Show back in January. It gives me another excuse to go downtown and hit Mexicantown or Greektown afterwards. We usually go with friends and their families. Even when we are not in the market for a new vehicle, it is good to see how the Big 3 compare to others. Since Detroit is usually quiet around this time of the year, [[except for the Lions), the businesses could really use the boost in customers.

I still think that it would had worked out better in the summer especially inJune. It just wasn't handled well. The last one didn't have the glamor but was more hands on. It had an Autorama vibe to it. The outdoor events weren't well organized. The Motorcity Crawl held in 2021 was better organized and well attended

^ Or Volkswagen? I used to love the Dodge/ Chrysler display with all of the digital wall and floor graphics showcasing their cars.

The Foreign automakers all have very small displays compared to GM, Ford & Stellantis. They are just a few cars displayed by the local dealers. The vehicle displays only take up about half of the main floor. Remember when Cobo needed to be expanded to handle the show?

I remember going to the 1968 Auto Show and Jimi Hendrix was playing next door at Cobo Arena. I said to my buddy “Let go see Jimi instead.” He said “ Nah, we’ll get him next time he comes to town”. One of the biggest mistakes of my life. When he came back in May, 1969, I was in the Army and then he was gone. Rest in peace Jimi. “Excuse me while I kiss the sky”

Thanks for posting that. I also saw that concert. I tell young people now-a-days I saw Hendrix for $6 and they pat me on the head and say "sure you did..."
