Add Nissian to that list also,they are close to filing bankruptcy.

Every manufacturer has seen sales plummet across the world while labor costs increase along with everything else.

Some European countries are steadfast with their saving the plant by 2030,if those companies are not building and selling a majority ICE over EV by now,their largest market is the U.S. and when the economy drops in the U.S. it effects the manufactures worldwide.

Look at the RV industry in the U.S. after January,they are finished because of emission standards.

The only frame platform that will be left is Ford,because they sell enough EVs in order to use the tax credits to offset the ICE sales.

That’s a multi billion dollar industry being wiped out and 100s of thousands of jobs gone,with the stoke of a pen.

Thats the problem with the auto manufacturers,they are not selling enough EVs in order to generate the tax credits in order to keep building ICE.

Grifter Tesla makes billions per year selling their carbon tax credits to other ICE manufacturers without them there would be a lot more manufacturers shutting down.

But it is only keeping them on life support,the auto industry that we know today is not going to be around in another couple of years.

Yeah I've a couple of friends that have the Nissan Kicks, Altima, Rogue's etc all with those weak 'rubber-band' CVT transmissions.

I never liked Datsun [Nissan's former brand].

When I drive Japanese we do Toyota and the newer of those aren't as good. At least they have geared transmissions.

Stellantis workers react to CEO stepping down

After serving as CEO of Stellantis for nearly four years, Carlos Tavares is resigning from his role with the automotive manufacturing company. According to a release from the company, Tavares' resignation was accepted by the Company’s Board of Directors and is effective immediately. Stellantis says the search for Tavares' replacement is "well under way", with a Special Committee of the Board managing the search, which the company says will conclude within the first half of 2025.

Great news! He was running us into the ground. Equipment maintenance has been poor by letting problems get out of hand instead of correcting them early. They can dump a few plant managers and their minion bobbleheads while they are at it.

The one two punch that had us reeling was driving prices up to unsustainable levels and a hasty full adaption to battery only vehicles.
A better way going forward is to give the customer what they want at a reasonable price. A variety of cars and trucks at price points to satisfy many would be a good start.

Some would say that is not possible. I respectfully disagree. So many obligations were carved off when we went through bankruptcy. Also, now that battery mandated vehicles are receding into the background, research and development can get back to designing better vehicles top to bottom.

The name of the company was always Nissan. Nissan got their automotive start in Japan by buying the tooling and machinery was the US Graham Paige car company that went belly up in the depression. When they wanted to enter the US market, they originally used the name Datsun so that if the venture failed, the name Nissan wouldn't lose face. After they became successful at US sales, they replaced Datsun with Nissan the real name of the corporation.

Good luck with that. Most of these manufacturers are opting to go with turbo charged 4 cylinders and the V6. They are even powering those massive pickup trucks. Some of which produce just as much horsepower and torque as a V8 with way better gas mileage. V8's are going be dinosaurs very shortly.

^ Yep. I prefer the non-turbo'd naturally aspirated big four cyl as found in some Toyota's. Engine does not have to work as hard [high rev] and no problems of a konked-out turbo unit.

Let's not even talk about those strained three-cyl-turbo'd jobs Ford uses. Not going to buy that problem. Nope.

Chrysler engineers had already figured out a way to make the Hemi V8's compliant with the standards for the next number of years.

But instead, the leadership decided to gamble on the Hurricane turbo 6. But that has lots of issues of course. It de-rates to half the rated hp of you beat on it a little. Cooling issues from the turbos and cats having been placed right next to the block.

As far as fuel economy,.. many small turbo engines DO NOT make better mileage than their bigger brethren. Take the F150 for instance. The turbo 6 gets a bit better highway cruise mpg than the 5.0 V8, but in real world driving, it gets 3-4 mpg worse mileage.

And the I-4's especially are terrible. They shake, and have to downshift a bunch of times to accelerate. Yes the peak hp number might look great on a test stand, but in real life it's night and day to a real engine.

And if these manufacturers are going to keep being pushed by the government to make ever bigger and heavier vehicles, than they'll need to keep making more and more power.

On a side note; Chevy just introduced a 1,064 hp version of the Vette.

I remember last time [late 80's, early 90's?] when the auto manufacturers got on the yep, me too, turbo bandwagon because it was the latest rage. A lot of poorly designed products with a multitude of problems and short lifespans.

I had a 1989 Volvo 740 4 cylinder turbo,4 speed with overdrive.Station wagon.

That car was fast,got almost 30 mpg on the highway and I could fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the back while closing the lid.

I had the exact same model and a 940, and a 240 wagon. None of them held a 4x8 inside. Hauled plenty of ply’s on the roof rack though, which was perfectly fine, because it was low enough to slide on and off. But yes, the 740 was fast.

One of my cars is a VW Jetta [yes I know VW's are a pain - we lucked out with a one not problematic] with a straight 5 cyl. Non turbo. Runs fast enough w/ 160 MPH on the dial but she's never pushed too hard.

But I like the fast responsiveness as needed. I now know why those little Golfs were zipping by in the fast lane the years before I owned a VW. They're very loaded, fast and strong cars for the compact class.

Sounds good though all that tough talk,but the reality is they can just shut it all down and tell the workers - Mexico is not that bad to live in.

The unions played that card in Atlantic City and the Casinos,the Casinos just locked the doors and bankrupted them,7000 people out of a job in a city where they could not find work - overnight.

Every manufacturer across the world is laying off and shutting down factories,how exactly does one take the stance of - you are going to do this or we are going to strike ?

That may of worked in the past when we still had some kind of industrialization left but it’s a global world economy now,they can build dodge trucks in Cambodia if they want and people will still buy them.

Look at the U.K and how many British manufacturers there used to be,no more,TATA owns Range Rover,the British government still buys them,so nobody cares where they are actually made anymore.

TATA is even building them in China,Chinese Range Rovers,that’s like buying an American apple pie from Uganda.
