Wife made me drive to Bad Axe on the 11th and we didn’t see a thing except a bunch of trump signs.

Hah! Thought I saw the northern lights on W-Bound I-94 at 7:50 AM in the fog this am at the Ford exit, but it was just someones tail lights.

    Blurred by the haze!

You may have, though, and just didn't realize it. To state the obvious, getting somewhere away from city lights and skyglow helps a lot--using a skyglow/light pollution map helps, and there are some great resources with 'bortle scale' [[dark sky) maps to really narrow it down.

That said, to the naked eye until it adjusts [[30-45 minutes), they look a lot like clouds, sometimes an odd haze with defined streaks through them. After your eyes adjust, the color is not as intense as those images.

A cell-phone's camera set to automatically adjust brightness is what causes those colors and defined edges to really show. That night, I just watched, and with my good night vision, I could see it much better than my wife who I pointed out where to snap photos. Her photos were MUCH better than what I saw.
