Now that I am older, yet very active, I do NOT want to walk long distances slogging heavy bags of groceries or products.

With great intentionality I already exercise, averaging about 5000+ steps in those actions, not including work walking/ movement activities.

I do drive less and welcome more store options near. But per the COVID fall-out and economy impacting retail more stores are CLOSING. Not opening.
Detroit once had walkable communities itself especially the communities that hat were bordered by Gratiot on the east side and Grand River on the west side. Many Millennials and Gen Zs were too young or weren’t born to remember or experience that. While New York had their bodegas and corner delis, Detroit had its supermarkets and neighborhood moms and pops stores throughout the whole city. The only reason one would need a car is to go to work, trips, or picnics or just being at Belle Isle. Gratiot had plenty of businesses lining the strip from downtown to 8 mile to serve residents whom lived in the communities off Gratiot.

stasu1213 is absolutely correct. Our neighborhood [[Six and Gratiot) had a plethora of goods and services available within walking distance of our house.
