Default Running Red Lights at Woodward and Jefferson

Every morning and afternoon, cars heading westbound on Jefferson routinely run the red lights at Woodward and the red light at Griswold to speed off on the Lodge under the convention center, whatever its name is now. The DOT buses run the same lights so they can turn right onto Griswold.

I strongly suggest our men/women in blue patrol that intersection before a pedestrian is killed. A lot of ticket money available with very little effort.

I've seen plenty of that downtown and throughout the city.

Yep. At some intersections I pause at the green light [including one near my home] only to watch the car rush thru on their red.

The city need to cut down the foliage that were planted in the median on Woodward south of Montcalm Street. Those are blindspots and people tend to walk from between them crossing the street without looking out for cars. Motorist can't see pedestrians standing there unless the motorists are driving SUVs, vans, or other taller vehicles

The entire city is in dire need of traffic enforcement.

Pedestrians need to learn how to cross streets too - go back to grade school - "look both ways before..... most have forgotten that golden rule.

True but there are pedestrian signs, and broken white lines going across Woodward telling motorists to watch out for pedestrians

Walking out into traffic while staring at your cell phone is never a good idea. Neither is running stop signs and red lights because you're on a bike.

^ Yes! I saw a woman aimlessly walking into Jefferson near Connor today at points staring and scrolling into her phone or looking into cars strangely as they swerved and blew horns to keep from hitting her.

    Look both ways? How old-timey!

Hard to do all of that when you're 'death-grip' clutching and staring into the almighty phone!

It's not just that intersection. It's everywhere, even the suburbs. I NEVER proceed immediately after the light changes. I wait a few seconds, because you'll find at least one idiot that decides to run the light. People drive too f'ing fast. Slow the f down!

I find that the yellow to red timing is very short,
even doing the speed limit and under.
It becomes a full on brake pedal mash to not see it turn red.
There are those newer crosswalk timers that help a lot but when they quit working they stay broken.

In my city they recently changed the lights so pedestrian signals turn to "walk" 6-7 seconds before the vehicle light turns green. It helps prevent cars from turning in front of pedestrians as soon as they get a green light.
