Default Potential Semi-Conductor Plant for Flint area

    https://www.detroitnews.com/story/ne...p/75191356007/

Don't have a subscription and a quick google search didn't reveal much. Anyone know some of the details? Is Mich. one of a few finalists for this plant or is it like Amazon where every state is throwing the "chips" in?

Two sources said the project appeared to hinge on approval by President Joe Biden’s administration for federal subsidies under the CHIPS Act, a 2022 law designed to lure investment in domestic semiconductor production and lower America’s dependency on foreign-made chips for everything from cars to home appliances. The act featured $39 billion in manufacturing incentives.

The article focuses more on Michigan's approach to companies {specifically to Western Digital Technologies Inc.} rather than a company's approach to multiple states. Although the article ends with a section about past regrets:
The state's pursuit of the new investment this year comes after Michigan officials in 2022 lost a huge semiconductor development [Micron Technology] to Syracuse, New York.
The potential development is known as "Project Grit."

Intels plant in Arizona uses 5.2 billion gallons of water per year,20 % of it is recycled back to the public but what is the worst that could happen with water tatuar was used to wash contaminated particles off of chips?

I think it is a good thing for the state,as long as the people understand no matter what industry you bring to the state when it comes to manufacturing you are not going to change anything because it is the nature of manufacturing and its byproducts that it produces.

So is it worse then say a steel mill, not really because they both have the same negative effects, just in different ways.

So do it because you need the jobs, the country needs to be manufacturing more in our soil while providing good paying jobs and the state needs companies like that and the country needs states to have companies like that.

But do not go into it thinking you are saving the planet or we are replacing that dirty nasty manufacturing because you are not.

I do not think Michigan has a water issue now or in the future where as where these states that have these factories are making a choice of agriculture or Tech so it’s actually a good fit for Michigan because it will not require you to make that one or the other choice because a lot of your state revenue comes from agriculture and it would be silly to play that zero sum game like some of these other states have done.

Its important because it is not only about today it’s about sustainability for the next generations.

These companies have zero issues with spending billions on temporary solutions, run it for 5 years and then shut it down when the water runs out and walk away.

Remember the whole thing about trying to bring the Amazon thing there, this is a whole different ball game.

When you look at the chip factory verses the proposed battery factory, the chip factory wins hands down as the better move because technology likes company and it can adapt at the pace needed fast then the battery technology which is an unknown future.

Anyways you look at it it’s going to cost the taxpayers a few billions as far as a taxpayer investment?

Something like this long term yes,a battery factory not so much because a battery factory is a one off thing where as a chip factory fits more into the technology aspect of the city and state and builds on that.

This is also an example of political policies and who and how we support the ones that we do.

The article states that the decision is dependent on the current administrations approval ,I do not agree with a lot that is happening under the current administration, nor do I support that party.

What I do support above anything is what is best policy wise that suits the country and in this case the states best interest.

I would not support throwing the country under the bus simply because I oppose who is sitting in that chair,it’s entirely possible to support a policy without supporting who is presenting it.

I would hope both parties within the state would work together to make this happen but also sad in a way because Detroits representation that is also needed is sitting in the corner with her mouth duct taped shut on a time out,it does not matter who you support, you just have to make better choices in that department because it is crucial to have that voice in Washington representing you when it comes to matters like this and other stuff like rapid transit etc.
