The lions thread this year is shorter for going into week 13. Not sure if it’s just because the whining and bitching has been quieter or we don’t want to jinx them, It must be one or the other. Anyway back to the thread subject… they have played ok this season.

"played ok this season"??? BEST record in the NFL, best point differential in all NFL, and playing without several key defensive starters! Maybe watch a game or two before making such an ignorant comment.

Lions can't afford to slow down or get laxed. The pressure is on them more than ever before from both fans and NFL to make something happen this year. More money was spent on this Lions team than anytime since the Ford family had owned them. The Lions can't afford to shut down like they had done the 2nd half of the playoffs game last year. Some tin foiled hat sayers claim that Vegas calls the shots. If by any chance that's true the Lions should just tell Vegas " Screw you. This is our year"

I don't believe in the peaked too soon thing although I am glad they lost one as it just seems so unlikely to run through the entire season and playoffs without a single loss. If they don't play as well the next few games it's likely because all the injuries are going to catch up with them.

What loss, TB? That was the 2nd game of the season. Definitely agree the injuries may slow them down. They did sign two former pro bowlers LB Kwon Alexander, and S Jamal Adams. However, Adams has been injured a lot and asked to be released by the Titans. I don't know if they have anything left in the tank, especially Adams.

Lions defense is shot to pieces with injuries and running on a wing and a prayer. Buffalo's wasn't much better. The Amon Ra fumble turnover and the failed fourth and short were the differences.

From now on they have to win by outscoring. I don't see the D stopping much.

Yeah, neither of these teams look like Superbowl contenders with those defenses. That on-side kick with 12:00 min. left was bizarre, even for Campbell. "I thought we would get the ball?" when 3 of 73 have been successful this season. Telling your defense you have zero faith in them even holding the Bills to a field goal is prettying bad. At least on defense you have a chance for a turnover.

  19. #119

The defense seems to struggle with opposing QBs with the same skill set. Mayfield, Allen, and Lamar Jackson, have all caused problems. Only one game though, and probably the one of the last four we could afford to lose, being a non-conference game. I wonder if Campbell knew his defense was fried, so a successful on-side was his only option, with plans to take the heat off his team if it failed.
Ra's fumble, Jamo's drop, and the worst run blocking we've seen all year, didn't help.

Along with a couple more defensive injuries, Montgomery is probably done for the season with an mcl injury. That should about finish off this year.

I want to see what Sione Vaki can do.

Montgomery is a big loss. He was the guy they sent out to punch the other team in the face and set the tone. This game is brutal.

I don't think they are finished, but only because all the other teams are all beat up too.

McNeill gone for the season is a devastating blow. Agree with Lowell that the offense is going to have to put big numbers on the board to keep them in games from here on out.

Losing Montgomery is a much bigger blow than Gibbs would be because he gets the consistent 4-5 yards that allows for short passing plays on 3rd down as well as being able to run for 1st down himself. You can't expect to replace the run game with passing against a good defense.

All of that money the Lions spent on building the best defense in the league this past year only to have them tumble like a deck of cards mostly to self inflicted injuries.
