I don’t think so. I believe the Cowboys, Packers, Vikings and 49ers are better teams. The Lions have to play them all this season. They also have the Chiefs and Bills on the schedule. But 9 wins might get them in the playoffs. I hope so.

Lions had an unbalanced game plan yesterday IMHO. Also, unable to recover from two interceptions and botched field goal. The team will be much improved by Thanksgiving.

P.S. Also, give credit to Baker Mayfield.

    THAT'S BETTER CATZ!

Lions repented from their Cardinal sins!

Cowboys are mortal but I agree that the competition from Vikings and cheeseheads seems like it will leave zero wiggle room on winning the division.

Agreed. The Cowboys defense is struggling to stop the run. The Lions have a good running game. But I have a feeling the Cowboys will remedy that problem over the course of this season. But I think the Lions should hope they don't have to play the Eagles. A healthy Saquon Barkley would present a major challenge for the Lions' defense.

I'm not sold on the Vikings or the Packers. Maybe it's Sam Darnold and Jordan Love that causes those lack of thrills and chills. The Cowboys on the other hand just seem dysfunctional. They always win 11 or 12 games and fall apart at the end.

They go to Dallas next Sunday, then to Minnesota the next week. Dallas is banged up on defense as Lawrence is on IR, and Parsons may be out with a high ankle sprain. Lions should take advantage in a way Pittsburgh couldn't. I think the Vikings are for real. Jefferson is argubly the best WR in the game, they destroyed Houston, and beat the 49ers. Nobody expected this from them, and Flores has done a outstanding job with the defense. Scrapheap Sam Darnold is having a great year for them. GB and Chi are lurking as well. The NFC North is much tougher this year.

Hutchison's injury may spell the end for a long playoff run. If there's one defensive player that can make a difference it's him.

    Two quotes seem appropriate.

“The cemeteries are full of indispensable men.” - attributed to the WWI Prime Minister of France George Clemenceau.

    "Next man up".

It is a huge loss especially since the other edge rusher they had signed as a free agent, Marcus Davenport, appears to be lost for the season too. Nonetheless the overall improved defense, especially the secondary might be able to compensate.

They need to change the scheme or something to generate pressure from somewhere. James Houston had 9 sacks in the 22 season, with limited snaps and he's a afterthought now. He must be in the doghouse or something. Still on the roster but has been inactive. The backend of the defense seems to be much improved with Branch and Joseph at safety. Talk radio and the TV NFL talking heads suggest they go after one of these pass rushers, Myles Garrett, Trey Hendrickson, Haason Reddick who's still holding out or Maxx Crosby. I don't think Holmes is going to give up draft capitol as in a couple of first or second round picks to get it done. He'll operate within the fringes like he always does. The trade deadline is up at 4pm Nov 5th [[ Election day, go figure) The Lions need to take advantage of this window they're in to get to a SB.

This injury is a devastating blow to the defense in what would have been remembered as one of the greatest regular season Lions road wins ever. I wish Aidan a speedy recovery and hope for him to be back in top form next August.

I think even after the injury, they did change scheme a bit. They kept generating pressure, and a lot of it came from the interior of the line. So, if Glenn can modify their scheme consistently, they can make up some of Hutch's production with what they already have.

As far as Houston, the problem with him is that he's a one trick pony. He can rush the QB and that it. He can't drop into coverage. He can't defend the run. Doing one thing well isn't enough anymore. Glenn and Campbell want defensive guys that are versatile and can attack from a number of different ways. When Houston is in, it makes the defense that much easier to read, and that just doesn't fit for how the Lions like to do things.

I hope you’re right. I have been wondering why week after week Houston is a healthy scratch yet still on the roster. That “one trick” might be a something they will need with both Hutch and Davenport on IR. Getting pressure constantly might be more important at times than complex variable defensive looks that keep opposing QBs guessing. Can’t let them look at everyone twice then decide where to throw it if the Lions get out to a decent lead. That’s a sure fire way to let a good lead melt away.

Huge game today! The best matchup of the week. Here's hoping the Lions can thwart the Vikings blitzing defense, and at least get a early edge with the tiebreaker and a piece of 1st place in the North. Minnesota is coming off their bye, so hopefully they aren't in sync.

Very nice road win, showing off all the offensive weapons. As expected they really missed Hutch. Darnold had all day to wait for his receivers to go downfield. Two weeks until the deadline to find a pass rusher.
