Some interesting graphics from an article in today's NY Times "How does your State Make Electricity" covering a time span that roughly parallels the life of this forum.
And the USA as a whole.

Thank you for posting these interesting data about how electricity
is generated in Michigan
That is very interesting. Are the underlying data percentages available?

There are different grades of coal and some of it burns clean and not dirty like they have lumped it all in,but it was cheap.
Our power company used to own the coal mines that supplied the coal, when they sold out they switched to Nat Gas which brought a 40% increase in the monthly bill.
Now as a consumer, you really have no choice because they have become reliant on that one source of power by eliminating the competition.
Europe was ahead of the U.S. when it came to dropping coal,it was easy to shut them down or manipulate them when the war broke out, what choice did they have?
You just simply shut the valve on the pipeline and millions are left in the cold.
It’s interesting because you have all of these people complaining about the evil corporations on one hand while on the other doing everything possible to make sure those evil corporations control every aspect, and not a bunch of them that creates competition, just a couple that control everything.
^ That fifth paragraph factor does seem to emerge often doesn't it?
