Default Broadway Lofts set to go ahead

I like this project, previously mentioned here by AirForceGuy, for its maintenance of the current street facades. Nice to see that has cleared hurdles to go forward.

"A downtown Detroit development of a new nine-story apartment building that will incorporate the facades of two existing buildings won approval Tuesday for millions in state-level incentives and is aiming for a late summer construction start. The $38 million project, temporarily dubbed Broadway Lofts, is to contain 80 mixed-income apartments and about 6,500 square feet of commercial space for a possible restaurant and small food market.

This new building does not include the Dan Gilbert owned Harvard Square Building on the left. It will just abut against it. But its' new tower architecture so closely matches it, that it could be mistaken as a modern continuation of the older tower.

This is great news for that part of Broadway Street. Has there been any work on Harvard Square?

Between this and the boutique hotel on the corner you would think DG would look at Harvard Square, and possible the lot next to it, as a solid opportunity to add more residential to the area. Filling that block in with residents would be huge for that part of town and might help the retail on the other side of Broadway as well.
