Default Ideas for a Great Anniversary in Detroit??

Hello, I am a 25 year old law student stumped on what I should do for my anniversary.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea for things I can do for my two year anniversary Saturday Sept 26. I was thinking about either staying at the Book Cadillac, MGM or Atheneum. I have no idea which hotel i should chose. Since its Detroit Restaurant Week I plan on going to Andiamo Detroit Riverfront, Coach Insignia, The Whitney, Wolfgang Puck Grille, Forty-Two Degrees North, Iridescence, Mosaic Restaurant, Opus One, or Roast. I have no idea where I should eat either.

My girlfriend and I are pretty adventurous. What should we do during the day on Sept 26th and after dinner. I am open to anything and any ideas would help! Lastly, I want to do everything in the downtown Detroit area.

Take her to Pewabic Pottery and let her buy as many things she likes...

Oh, sorry, that was my anniversary dream...that or diamonds.

betterhalf and I stayed at the Atheneum Hotel for our wedding night. After our reception and such, we walked around Greektown, hit some of the bars, and then just chilled. My recommendation is to stay at the Atheneum, take her to a nice dinner, and then just walk around the rest of the evening holding hands.

And you're right, LodgeDodger....Pewabic....don't forget that AND the diamonds. Diamonds ALWAYS work. ALWAYS.

Hey you're a student, try to do something that is not going to break the bank. Those schoolbills are going up at a quick rate these days. You're not even married for petes sakes.

I have stayed at both the Book-Cadillac and MGM.

There is no question that the MGM has more luxurious rooms, and they are more stylish as well [[this can be good or bad depending on your tastes). On a weekend night it will also have a somewhat "happening" vibe and will be more crowded. The MGM also has a fantastic spa.

The Book Cadillac is more quiet. The building has been renovated beautifully. The hotel is more of a business-oriented hotel than the MGM, which is more resort-like [[spa, indoor pool, casino, etc. at the MGM). The rooms are also nice at the BC, and I liked it, except that it was summer and you cannot put the air conditioning below 68 degrees.

If you would like to go out and do other things [[and supposing that your girlfriend does not love casinos), you should probably stay at the Book-Cadillac and save some money that you can put towards other activities during the weekend. Sometimes on weekends the MGM's rates can be in the $400-$500 range.

Thanx guys! May sound like a dumb question but what is the Pewabic Pottery?

Click here for Pewabic Pottery's website. I will let LodgeDodger tell you more, as she is a resident Pewabic enthusiast, but Pewabic Pottery is a unique kind of pottery made in Detroit. You can even find Pewabic detailing on many old buildings in the city, and I believe at Comerica Park as well.

Does your wife of two years know you are bringing your girlfriend? Just kidding. When I first starting reading the post I assumed it was a two year wedding anniversary. And then to my surprise it was not. Congratulations though. I have not been to Roast yet so I would try that so you can let me know if I should go!

    Default Anniversary

We spent a week in Detroit this summer. Stayed at the Book and MGM. I vote for MGM...much nicer room for same price. Much better customer service. For dinner I vote for the Rattlesnake or Opus One. Both are elegant...wonderful food etc. Enjoy!
