Default 42 Fun Things To Do In Windsor/Detroit From The Devonshire Mall Staycation Expo

    Greetings from Windsor,

Did anyone check out the Staycation Vacation Expo at Devonshire Mall Windsor on April 29-30? If you missed it, I did a short video on youtube on 42 fun things to check out in the Detroit/Windsor area this year. They had a lot of cool vendor presentations like hiring a WWI aerobatic plane from the Canadian Aviation Museum, Seadoo Rentals, the Belle Isle Grand Prix, a War of 1812 Recreation Festival at Ford Malden, and even info on the 20 different local wineries and a dozen craft breweries. I also managed to ask the times, dates and how much it costs as well as their website link for more info. My youtube link is here:

I also made a Top 5 under 1 minute short summary here:

There's also a jousting tournament going on at the Leamington Renaissance Festival if you were wondering what's going on in Windsor-Essex this weekend. https://bizxmagazine.com/events/leam...ance-festival/

    Cheers,

Awesome. Thanks. Our being an international metropolis is what makes our family of communities along Le Detroit unique and colorful.

I appreciate the positive feedback. One great event that was not presented during the Staycation Expo was on the free narrated Jane Walks that happen in Windsor during the spring. I went to a couple. In case people missed out, I just made a Youtube of one below. This was a tour of the St. James Anglican Church Cemetery in the Sandwich neighbourhood of Windsor with the Questers dressed up in period costumes talking about the stories behind some of the tombstones like the gruesome killing of Doctor Hume, the 57 lost Norwegians, and the Tornado of Death.

    Well that was pleasant.

It reminded me of the exiled "human books" in Fahrenheit 451.

Well, couldn't hear most of what she said but I heard hot freight cars, contaminated water, unknown mass grave so I guess they died very much like immigrants today from southern border. Sad story....

Another fun thing to check out this Saturday that wasn't mentioned at the Expo in Windsor-Essex is the traditional Demolition Derby at the Leamington Raceway Fairgrounds at 5pm [[May 27th). All day admission is $25CDN. Last time I was there, it lasted a couple hours. Lots of cars getting destroyed. A whole lotta fun.

The V8 segment is the most fun to watch [[recorded below by another youtuber)

For those that missed the 36th anniversary of the Carousel of the Nations in Windsor, I did a video of it here:

Thanks for the positive feedback. I agree, the Macedonians did a spectacular job with their village and the food I bought there tasted amazing. The beef on the shishkabob was perfect. I could tell they went out of their way to make sure there was no fat on the meat because fat on beef makes it stringy and hard to chew. This was soft and perfectly smooth and the seasoning was just right. I give it an A+.

For those that might be wondering what the Windsor side of the Detroit International Fireworks looked like, I did a video of it here followed by a short tour of the night carnival and Ouellette Ave.

For those that might be wondering what Fort Malden and Royal Navy Park looks like in Windsor-Essex, I did a 2 hour video of it, which is free to visit on Canada Day. Fort Malden is in Amherstburg, about a half hour drive from downtown Windsor. There was a Brown Bess Flintlock demonstration, two different canon demonstrations, a museum tour, a tour of the barricks and some presentations by Parks Canada employees dressed up in period costumes. It started to rain a few hours later, so I didn't stay longer for the fireworks.

I finally got around to finishing and posting my video of Windsor's 131ST birthday along the riverfront and five free places I explored including watching the Serbian Dance Ensemble in front of the Windsor Aquatic Center, the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Chimczuk Museum, the Corvette Show, and the Poutine Fest [[at Festival Plaza in front of Caesar's Casino).

I also did a short of the Serbian Dance Ensemble at Windsor's Birthday Event here:

Very nice. The Serb dance ensemble on this side of the river [[out of the Serb church at Outer & Van Dyke) is also very good.

I'm glad you both enjoyed these videos of Windsor. I just did another one on the annual Halloween in July Contest held by the Cosplay Convention in Jackson Park, Windsor here:

I did two more videos on Windsor recently.

In the first video, I explore the Ouellette Avenue Car Cruise meetup at Festival Plaza in front of Caesar's Windsor, which is an annual pre-event before heading down to the Woodward Dream Cruise the next day.

In the second video, I explore a Free Jane's Walk on the best area of downtown Windsor [[River West). The Jane's Walk host gives a heritage tour of the area and I add a commentary on new developments. This includes a walk through the new Gateway Park, which is in some ways very similar to Detroit's Dequindre Cut, as it turns an old railway cut into a nice 1 km pedestrian walkway and bike trail to get to the Riverfront.

For those that missed the Dropped on Drouillard event in Windsor on Saturday because of the Woodward Dream Cruise, I did a short video below of the area and on the Cirque street performers doing acrobatics and a fire show. I also did a couple shorts of the street performers as well. I think it's quite amazing how Drouillard Road in the Ford City neighbourhood of Windsor transformed itself over the past decade like Downtown Detroit, but on a much smaller scale:

Here's a video of an Aerial Lyra show at one of the free Fun Friday events that's held every Friday at Devonshire Mall across the border in Windsor Ontario. I included the last part of the video not for schadenfreude, but to make an important event planning point. If what happened near the end, happened near the beginning, without a backup stunt performer like here, the long promoted event would basically be cancelled at the last minute. Accidents can happen at any time, so it's best to have a backup plan.
