Work has been ongoing for months.
Yes, as discussed numerous times above. But as the article states, they just now closed on the final pieces of financing to enable the completion of first portion, the 117 low income units, and got actual ownership. I’d assume that’s why there was no fanfare until now, even work had been started.
Historic Detroit posted on Facebook today that the first lion head has been installed!
I found this compilation on FB...

How many of the terra cotta lions heads were originally on the Lee Plaza?
They are made from terra cotta, so I would assume that taking a mold of one of them, they should be able to recreate all of them that they don't get back...![]()
Not sure. I didn't know there were so many - one must have survived for the casting! That brick work alone had so much patterning per the colors used.
So nice this renovation is finally moving along to completion!

Zacha341... in one of your links it said that 48 were "crudely removed"... not sure if that is the total... but that it a lot!!![]()
I don't know if this link has been posted, but METRO TIMES had an article about the lions heads... and even mentions DetroitYES...

Never mind... it's dated 2003, so I'm sure it's in one of the archived posts.
I was given this image of a Lee Plaza "re-cast" lion head. This is currently located in the onsite construction trailer.![]()
