Default Let it Snow -- Winter Activities in the D

It's Winter. It's Michigan. It snows. So what? What are your favorite Metro Detroit sledding hills, skating rinks, and winter activities and memories?

Like Shiawassee Hill in Farmington or the nearby downtown skating rink on Grand River?

Or is it just a walk in winter's majesty?

As a kid, decades ago, it was Balduck Park hill on the far east side, just a few blocks from the house I grew up in. Not only was the eastern slope great for sledding, but back in the day they also had a pair of wooden toboggan runs that were iced over in the winter. They also have a skating rink and warming house.

But if you went down the wrong side of that hill, it was just rocks. Quite the ride. Also loved the nature trail there when I was a kid. We used to climb the fence to get in when it wasn't open. Our own private forest.

Balduck Park was the best! We had a toboggan that our dad and the 4 oldest [[out of 5) kids could fit on to go down the big hill over and over. We also went ice skating there. Mom would bring a thermos of hot chocolate. Great family memories!!
