Really there should be 5 more of these under construction right now.

There are many nice highrises lining the Riverside Ave. east of downtown. In addition, housing is very inexpensive in Windsor compared to comparably sized cities in Southern Ontario. Also, the Windsor economy has only really picked up in the last few years.

There are not that many. Windsor has had extremely high growth rates for he last several years now. They should be building a lot more near downtown.

Also Windsor is hardly cheap, real estate prices are kinda ridiculous actually.

Blame it on politics. Windsor has traditionally voted for left-of-center parties on the provincial level, while Ontario has been governed by right-of-center parties. Just like Detroit. This has led successive provincial governments to ignore the entire Windsor to Chatham corridor and govern the province with the mindset that Ontario ends at London and the needs of folks in southwestern Ontario don't matter, just like successive Michigan state governments have treated Detroit with benign neglect. This might be changing now that Windor-Essex flipped from an NDP stronghold to true-blue Conservative in the last election [in Canada provinces governed by right-of-center parties are labelled "blue" while provinces governed by right-of-center parties are labelled "red"]. Plus, the powerful pull of the Greater Toronto Area sucks up resources and economic development that might better be deployed in other parts of the province.

Windsorites look to Downtown Detroit with their tall 40 to 70 stories buildings and spoke. "Why can our city look like that?"

The answer from their politicians "Because we are not the Motor City. And we are not Toronto, too."

Windsor is just a happy small city with surrounding open farmland ready for urban-city sprawl so we can look like Detroit's suburbs.

Give it about 100 years and Windsor will look like Detroit only better. That will make Old Detroit jealous.

Couple of things don't jibe with that. First the proposed apartment is in NDP Brian Massey's Windsor West and second Windsor-Essex is hardly an NDP stronghold, being that the Conservatives have held if for six of the seven parliaments since 2006. Thanks for the report and I'd love to have an apartment there looking at the Detroit skyline.
