Default New Hotel Announced for Ilitchville

Location of site not cited in article...
"Real estate billionaire Stephen Ross and the Ilitch organization have submitted a development plan for a new $190 million hotel that will be located next to Little Caesars Arena.

"The plan for a 14-story, 290-room hotel, which will also include up to 30,000 square feet of street-level retail, food and beverage space, was submitted to the Detroit Downtown Development Authority this week. Construction would start in 2024 and take three years to complete."

The Freep failed to mention that Ross/Ilitch Co will be asking for a public subsidy for this project...a luxury hotel.

The development agreement says the developer expects to apply for public incentives for the project, which it says are necessary for it to be economically viable. Olympia and Related will be managing members of the developing entity and contribute equity to the project, the development agreement says.

Considering the state of journalism, I presume Crain's has the latest rendering too.

I like the Crain's version better. The Freep facade looks like what is often used to hide parking garages.

Quite sloppy journalism to not specify where this would actually be built. “Next to” the arena doesn’t convey very much.

it’s the vacant lot between 75 and the arena. In the rendering the 75 service drive is the street at the bottom and on the right is Woodward. Before the arena was built it would have been the block of the 75 service drive, Woodward, Henry and Park.

It also the same design they are using to hide multi story self storage units in dense urban cities, not much creativity left in architecture anymore it seems.

The Park Avenue Hotel could have been converted into a luxury hotel, but had to be sacrificed for the pizza arena's "bigger loading dock."
