Default New gaming site coming to Lakeshore

This caught me by surprise today. With business at Caeser's Windsor struggling because of coronavirus, you would think the last thing Windsor-Essex needs is more competition for the casino. Lakeshore seeks public feedback on proposed gaming site | Windsor Star

The casino by me stays packed 24/7 because they are the only one in a 500 mile radius, but yet more will travel that 500 miles because at that location there are multiple casinos and your odds of winning are greater because of the competition.

They may be struggling because if they are the only game, smaller payouts and less frequent winning,so less people go,with competition they may up their game and do better.

Another company would not bring a casino in while spending millions unless they did the research first and figure it is a profitable venture.

Our casino never struggled during corona because they never were forced to close while contributing billions back into the state coffers, the downside of that is we have to find other things to blame life’s ups n downs on then the rona virus.

Competition is always good for the consumer.

Not really relevant to this discussion. The 3 Detroit casinos are directly across the river but Metro Detroiters aren't coming over, probably mostly due to the Arrive Can App nuisance. Windsor is not a big enough market to support more competition, especially if Americans don't return and once folks change habits, like favorite casino, it's hard to get them back.

^ it was relevant to the discussion if you read the OPs post.

Somebody that is getting paid a lot more then you or I decided it was feasible,so the discussion the feasibility of it is not relevant to the discussion.

Our personal opinions on weather or not competing casinos is good or not is different.

Or even why spending millions investing in a country that you will not know if your business will be taken over by the government from one day to the next could also be relevant.

AC had a thriving casino business where billions flowed through the local economy, until the unions killed it,but between Detroit and Windsor put enough of them in and it could become a destination.

But I am confused,in the other thread multiple people said The Arrive Can App was no big deal and worked flawlessly so it should not factor in with Americans flipping across the bridge for Windsor casinos.

Detroit and Windsor seemed to share a special bond back in the day,I guess what we have now is an example of what happens when we give up freedoms for security.

Minneapolis/ ST Paul are both successful cities that feed off each other, also divided by a river.Mostly anyways, not much different then Detroit and Windsor did back in the day.

I am kinda surprised that being there is billions of cross border traffic that is so great that both sides deemed a trucker strike a national emergency based on it was costing billions of dollars in lost revenue.

But yet neither state or city or country does anything remotely possible to ease border restrictions when it comes to that crossing, they actually look for ways to restrict it even more.

That does not even make sense.

Both Cities are facing the same hurdles when it comes to the tourist trade and generating revenue from it,maybe it might be better to expand the picture instead of trying to be a nucleus on one’s own.

At one time Detroit was an international city, that requires looking at things on a grander scale and looking at dealing again in the international level verses a local small town.

Detroit international is a stop over point for flights to the Philippines, most have a 8 hour layover, they love to gamble, almost as much as the Chinese, but yet here they are sitting in the airport with pockets full of cash for 8 hours with nobody to help them to lighten the load.

You have an international airport, why not make Detroit/Windsor an international destination?

That also ties into the city airport,if the city allowed commercial flights, how far is your reach when it comes to under two hours for a flight to come to the area for a weekend of gambling, say like for instance from Chicago, those people have to stay at a hotel, eat and have an adventure doing other things while spending money.

They used to fill bus loads of people and bus them 6 hours to go on gambling junkets.

That was set up by people looking for ways to make things happen and not looking for ways for things not to happen.

I do not gamble, but it is like building a car,one wheel does not create a finished product,it takes a bunch of parts to have a complete salable item, casinos just happen to be in that list of parts.

There are not enough locals to support Ford,GM or the other one either, but they think internationally.

You must get picked off a lot, being so far off base all the time.

The Canadian government said it's reviewing the "effectiveness" of the ArriveCan app and might end its' use in the near future. Of course everybody knows Trudeau wants to call another election as soon as possible and he's been making annoucemets almost everday during his many photo ops across the country. Wonder how much carbon he's putting into the atmosphere while flying on taxpayer funded government aircraft. But with politicians it's always do as i say not do as i do.
