Man climbs up side of Renaissance Center, videos show [[freep.com)

While many Detroiters can boast that they've climbed all 1,035 stairs in the Renaissance Center, few can say they've scaled the building's exterior.
But at least one local individual can now make that claim, based on videos that surfaced on social media Sunday.

I'm amazed at how easily these climbers are able to scale tall buildings!! And without any safety harnesses. Last week some guy climbed the 60-story Salesforce Tower in San Francisco.

And both the guy here in Detroit and the one in SF made the climb in the name of social awareness of the abortion issue.

He does make a case for when abortions should be allowed though,he did not seem concerned about those who would have had to scrape him off of the pavement had he fell.

I like the video of the one mentioned in California,the police were on the roof waiting for him to finish the climb,like Meh if he falls he falls.

It was an article about an idiot climbing a building it was not written as the tourist guide to building dimensions in downtown Detroit.

This is not nearly as bad as the guy [[can't remember his name) who tight-roped the World Trade Center in New York, that was at one time the tallest buildings in the world and survived. I believe there was a documentary on it called "Man on a Wire"

Agree Southen... which is why I use the handy dandy "scroll" function to go right past his BS.

Since he doesn't live here he has no clue that someone climbing one of the 4 office towers would assuredly end up dead on the 4 story podium, but someone who fell off of the taller hotel tower would end up crashing thru the 8 story atrium skylight, and probably either bounce around, or perhaps survive tangled as one of the hanging artworks breaks his fall.

Wiki says the outer towers are 522 feet. And if they start at the 4th floor [bottom floors being 15 some feet tall each?] Does that mean he only climbed up 460 feet or so?

Rocket... did you know that Atwater St. is at a lower level than Jefferson Avenue? Did you know that this makes it problematic for height determination of the towers of the Renaissance Center. When the Renaissance Center first opened up that the hotel tower boasted a height of 748 ft. on the Atwater side, yet the 727 ft. on the Jefferson side was never mentioned at that time. Similar scenario for the office towers. In fact when the complex opened up the office towers were listed at only 490 ft.

Even the Penobscot Building has 2 heights that were historically mentioned... 557 ft. and 625 ft. Ditto for the Guardian Building, which has everything from 490 ft. to 535 ft., depending on where you are getting the information from.
