"keeping all of the neighborhood charm" - but please don't go on the sidewalk. Proceed directly from the garage via the elevated walkway to the windowless casino.

That whole scene is so done [the original Greek theme]. Just call it casino-row and be done with it!

That casino ruined Greektown. I wouldn't surprised if they dropped the "Greektown" name altogether at some point in the future.

Greektown joins Cobo Hall and the State Theatre on a list of downtown venues whose name changes under new corporate ownership will go largely ignored by the general public

Name changes are way more common than most people know.

The State Theatre underwent its' 7th name change in its' 97 years... State, Palms-State, Palms, State, Clubland, State, Fillmore.

The Detroit Opera House went from the Capitol, Paramount, Broadway Capitol, Grand Circus, DOH.

Germantown changed to Greektown... to ???

One Detroit Center went to Comerica Tower to Ally Bldg.

Campus Martius went to Kennedy Square and then back to Campus Martius.

The Wilson Theatre became Music Hall, the Eaton Tower became the Broderick Tower, the Barlum Tower became Cadillac Tower... and on it goes...

Ah, but Las Vegas, founded in 1905, has never changed names.....and everyone knows what it means.

[For those not up on their Spanish, it means "The Meadows", where nice spring water was found in this desert area.]

And please note, I paid attention to Lowell's commentaries on the hyphenated wars. Apologies to my Latin teacher at Mackenzie decades ago who taught me of the Gallic Wars.

Sure screwed up this chain, didn't I?

I don't like the name change. I assume that the company that owns the other Hollywood casinos owns Greektown and so they want to bring it under the umbrella. Perhaps they strive to be a recognized name like MGM. So it at least makes sense from that perspective. I do like that they kept Greektown in the name. I'm sure they debated between "Hollywood Casino at Greektown" and "Hollywood Casino Detroit". I certainly like the former more than the latter.

I believe you are referring to "Barker's Law"... which states "Murphy was an optimist".

I've visited Greektown Casino many times, but the MGM is nicer. Motor City Casino is the worst of the lot. In that order.

MGM is probably our best. Motor City takes my money. and all Greektown is is mostly slot machines, which is boring.

In my experience, while Motor City offers the most "raunchy" atmosphere, it has the best Casino food and table game action [[especially the bad beat jackpot). It is the hardest to navigate though.

MGM's definitely has a more "bougie" atmopshere and tighter slots, but table games are also good there.

Greektown is only good for having the loosest slots & of course it has much better proximity/acessibility to other stuff downtown. It's the smallest of the 3 and has very poor ventilation.

Greektown has always been a distant 3rd in revenues. Much as we decried the location of the others, serious gamblers want their convenience. Quick in and out off the highway and all on one level.

I find all casinos, Detroit and beyond, to be loathsome places.

Gambling preys on the vulnerable in society. We even carved out a smoking exception within the walls of casinos. Although smoking seems to be temporarily banned due to COVID, I'm sure things will get back to normal though. After all, we can't take money from the vulnerable people if we don't let them exercise their chemical addictions as well.

Our government fights other ills. Vaccination disinformation. Vaping. Heck, we even try to fight smoking. But gambling? Nope. The state runs its own gambling machine to take their money.

I see gambling as a major threat for my kids. A thing I've got to teach them to avoid.

Gov'ts got addicted to gambling in a hurry. Now with the sports books we are totally inundated with ads as each one tries to get you to be a member and hooked on their app. It's pretty discouraging that you can't turn on a ball game without it being in your face during the game, not just commercial breaks. They of course have to do it or lose their jobs but I'm sure a lot of these longtime broadcasters just cringe every time they read one of these ads.

FWIW, I just heard on WWJ that in the ranking of the most gambling-addicted states, Michigan came in at 39.

The most gambling-addicted state was Nevada, the least, Utah. Neither a surprise but it's curious that they share a border.

Agreed. Big Brother is a bully with a split personality. It forbids harmless pleasures and promotes harmful vices.

The basis for its schizoid policies seems to be whatever organized crime desires.

Right. Speaking of organized crime, don't forget the churches.
