Default Fairlane Mall may close soon!

The owner of Fairlane Mall in Dearborn Michigan has defaulted on its loan and could approach bankruptcy or possible closure of the mall.

Let's share some fond memories because shopping malls are going a thing of the past due to Amazon's booming on-line sales.

I suspect someone else will buy the mall.

It has problems, but it's not nearly as bad off as Eastland and Northland were.

The article literally states it’s being sold next month. It’s not closing.

A partial tear down may be necessary. Not sure what Dearborn's needs are but some time of fitness facility, rink, community center, etc. could maybe take up some of the property. They may need to sell off some of the land for housing. It's not just the building. When a mall that large isn't needed, there's a ton of excess parking as well.

Which means its closing soon. Only to re-open into something else.

Came across this video from Click on Detroit about the Mayor of Dearborn wanting to create a sort of Midtown in that area.

Huge shopping malls are becoming a thing of the past. The new model is strip malls [[as they don't need as much land) and internet shopping has really put a nail in the coffin for huge malls. The only local malls that seem to be surviving are Twelve Oaks and Somerset.

No. The article does not state or imply that. Don't post misleading thread titles.
