I had a moment of nostalgia yesterday when I found myself in line behind a Crown Vic. Its headliner was a bit tattered but the rest of the car was like new. You don't see many of those anymore. <Sigh>

In some cities they still dominate the police force where everybody else switched to the charger.

Down here you can get a super clean Crown Vic that was a supervisor car for like $1800 at the auctions, that is alot of car for the money.

    Last RWD produced.

I think a lot of it has to do with our emission and safety standards.

Remember in the 70s when the 5 mph crash bumper standard came into effect, every US car received a big bumper set up that totally distracted from the vehicle.

The UK version of the Escort was a totally different car compared to the US version and still is popular today where you do not see an escort here any more, the XRTI was very popular over in Europe and when they brought it over here it flopped because after all the standards were met it was priced as a high end luxury car.

It has to be tough on a U.S. based manufacturer, where they have to build a car around the set standards verses being able to design something with style.

Maybe that’s way the cars produced from the teens to the 70s remain timeless classics, they did not have to be safe, they just had to look good.

The edict is in: no more cars for US drivers. Even I gave in, and have an Escape on [[twice-delayed) order after my good ol' '06 Focus wagon was destroyed in one of our floods.

You are not incorrect. Click on the "America's new fusion" link to see the next North American fusion, which of course will be a crossover. Looks similar to the Mustang suv.

It's ironic that a few decades ago it looked like muscle cars might be dead and now that's the only cars the Big 3 make for North America outside of the Cadillac sedans.

Supposedly, this is the last year for the Hellcat Challenger and Charger as well as the 300. Looks like Stellantis [[still Chrysler to me) is going the same only Trucks Minivans, and SUV's route.

There will definitely be new Charger/Challengers, and probably 300, sedans. There will be a hybrid and then a full electric probably a year later. Stellantis says they will be based on an Alfa Romeo platform and be more mid-sized. The hellcats are dead but they will still be rear drive and awd.

Looks like that sedan might just be in America for evaluation.

I understand why Ford and other manufacturers are moving away from sedans [[lower profits), but I did like my Fusion. A hybrid Edge would be nice...

I have a 2015 fusion 2.0 liter awl. Great car except the transmission hesitates at intersections and very low speeds. A common Ford problem. Annoying as hell.

^ That's that new CVT tranny. It's a bit weird in most cars that use it now. But it's particularly weird in Fords.

Let's be honest about what's going on here. It's not that sedans won't sell in America, there are tons of them still on the road. It's that the US automakers have *forfeited* their market to foreign automakers. Ford tries to claim that Americans simply don't want to buy sedans, but this is not true. It's that they've lost the market to foreign competition.

^ YEP! Honda and Toyota [Including Lexus] sedans are in full stride.

And a near-mint condition five+ year old Toyota Tundra truck with 100,000+ miles is going for nearly the original new price!

I'm a Toyota fan just like you are Zacha341, my sons too.

I read a few weeks ago that Tie-o-da sold 100,000 units more than GM this year in the US. As casscorridor says, there still are plenty of sedans on the road produced by foreign competitors, mind you, I'm not tempted by German cars and SUVs. I'm a fan of reliability, and Tie-O-da in Japanese means just that.

^Watch out you! These days yah might be banished-to-the-cornfield for making what may misconstrued an Asian slur in yo' pronunciation there [smile]......

We love our Toys. They make great used cars with affordable maintenance as it goes. We've never purchased them new so well beyond the criticism of not buying American. Heck! The last one was made in Kentucky! All of ours have gone over 250,000K comfortably and expectedly. No car's perfect, but the quality/ durability factor of Toyota's up thru 2010 has been awesome, IMO.

I don't do European cars [BMWs, Mercedes]. Sure, they can be great for the first 70K or so - the road handling is great. But as they age they become VERY steep money pits. I'll let the rich [smile] have 'em as they either can afford the hefty repairs as they age, or they ditch them onto the used car market. And some go for really cheap used. Until 'you' own them - and start the repair cycle......

Right. It's the car note/ insurance duo that's the killer. And as much as I like to drive, I'm not pressed to put a high percentage of my income into a car.

Some are finding themselves just a few steps ahead of the repo-man!

America handed its own head to China on a silver platter. It's called self-Salomation.

^ Yep. Apparently the continued, and increasing 'handing' over is now quite virtuous, and expedient. Affirmed as most progressive!

If you're referring to the self-Salomation, it's been going on forty years at least. The presidential election of 1990 was a contest between Ross Perot and two Salomizers who argued that the PRC would adopt Western values after a few years of trading with us. The opposite happened, in that today almost no one in the West believes in freedom or human rights.
