Default Ground Broken for The Sawyer Apts. in UD District

Always nice to read about development outside the vertical suburbs of downtown/midtown.

“We are trying to do affordable housing that has an upscale feel about it, and art does that, and art adds things to the community at large also,” said N'Namdi, who owns the N'Namdi Center for Contemporary Art and is developing a similar art-infused apartment building in the city's Woodbridge neighborhood called Osi Art Apartments.

All 38 residences at Sawyer Art Apartments will be offered at reduced rents for those making 60% and 80% of the area median income, generally between $34,000 and $45,000. Those asking rents would start at about $750 per month for a studio apartment, $800 for a one-bedroom and $1,278 for a two bedroom.

Additionally, the four retail spaces in the 33,000-square-foot building will be offered at reduced leasing rates.

    developments.

As will be the case with the development on Kercheval and Van Dyke in West Village, it will be nice to get more people actually living ON the commercial strips.

Good for them Six Mile and Livernois commercial district, the hood that I grew up long ago needs a face lift.

I wonder how many more of these developments are needed before people stop complaining that all of the development is happening in downtown/midtown?

Seems like one of these is popping up every other week, the b*tching is starting to ring a bit hollow...

Way North of Downtown. Too bad Larco's isn't still across the street.

Speaking of UD Mercy. Anyone have updates on their plans for land south of Shiple Hall? I see all the old duplexes have been cleared. IIRC they were planning to build market-rate housing along Puritan to target families and post grads.
