Default Why are there no hotel rooms available downtown tomorrow?

Ususally I can find a hotel room downtown no problem, but according to Priceline and Expedia there are none available tomorrow night. Is this because of Canadians coming to see the Blue Jays, or is there something else going on?

It is because of your excellent grammar.

Good that all hotels are booked! Did you try all the B and B's?

I know that there is a convention this weekend, but not sure how large it will be.

Try going to the hotel's websites. Just because you can't book through the discount sites it doesn't mean they don't have roomsm

Someone posted about this a while ago on the forum. There is not one big event/convention, but a lot of smaller ones that are keeping the hotels busy. That is a good thing for the city, though I am sorry to hear you are having trouble getting a room.

Toronto is playing Detroit all weekend.
I've seen thousands of people wandering around with badges on saying ACN today.

Only on a site called DetroitYes, will you get a bunch of Detroit haters making snide comments about the downtown hotels being full for the weekend.

Congrats for successfully turning a positive into a negative.

I agree, I live in the northern burbs', but I was born in Detroit and love coming to the city so I joined the forum awhile back. As a new "outsider" of sorts I must say there is always a ton of negativety and personal jabs to one another. The hotels being full for whatever reason [[it is due to numerous small conventions and the Jays being in town) is definatly a positive especially since most people on this forum gripe and complain how bad it is in Detroit.
Everybody, including the people in the suburbs should rally around positive news like this rather than stupid comments. Until this happens Detroit will never be the city it once was. Let the comments fly!

Wow, with the exception of one joke, I thought this was a reasonably positive and informative thread. The only negative comments I'm seeing here are the last two that are complaining about negative threads. No offense.

That's because some of us get tired of all the unrealistic Pollyanna crap.

LOL! That's a hoot and sounds about right. CLOSED!

Of course there's always the "blood-sucking casino hotels like deadbeat MGM Grand. But I can only imagine what they would charge some "sappington" paying the non-comp rate. Compared to Caesars Windsor they are a fortune!!

Expedia and Priceline [[and others) are consolidators who traditionally negotiate volume room discounts with hotels, flights with airlines and bookings with cruise ship companies. Many times you can contact these properties and companies/carriers directly and beat the discounter's rates. Always be very careful of the terms and conditions. That being said, the Pontch closing may have walked 400 rooms to the other viable properties if indeed the hotels downtown are booked with small conventions and that sold out the market along with the Toronto crowd. There are always some rooms 'held back' for certain situations...but if they release them they will be a 'rack' rate...the usually the highest $$$. If you are you a member of a hotel, airline partner or bankcard loyalty program there might be possibilities.

Call the hotel directly. You can't expect to get a discount when the Jays and a convention are in town.

Nobody around here can handle a little joke anymore.

Stay away from the ACN folks. ACN is having their International Conference Sept 11-13. They are direct sellers of communications. For $500, you can even become one of them too! Ever hear of Cutco?

Love how all the hotel rooms are full downtown, [[great news, there were a ton of lights on in the Ren Cen Marriott last night), and yet all of the streetlights along Jefferson from St. Aubin to the Lodge Entrence were turned off. Love it. Welcome to Detroit, hope your brought your mag-lite. And the streetlights along this stretch actually work, too... all of them.

Perhaps the company is a rip-off [[I don't know either way), but Cutco knives are fantastic. My wife had gotten a set through a friend years ago and they are great knives.

My parents have a set. Yes, those are good knives.

I use my set everyday! Bought them in 1965. An occasional sharpening and they're as good as new. In fact, used the sharpener that came with my set the other day!

They're amazing knives, but I couldn't justify spending $700 for a set. Even the table knives are like $30/piece. I buy mine from Walmart, 5 pack for $1. FTW!
