According to a press release, Players Only will have a 180,000-square foot facility that will include a 60,000 square foot cultivation space, an 8,000 square foot dispensary, a private cannabis consumption lounge and more.

The group has also partnered with cannabis companies Gage Growth Corp. and Cookies U for cannabis products and a comprehensive training program and operations center.

TerrAscend Corp., a Mississauga, Canada-based multi-state cannabis operator, announced it has entered an agreement to acquire all issued and outstanding subordinate shares of Detroit’s Gage Growth Corp., a leading cannabis brand and operator, for approximately $545 million.

Upon completion of the transaction, the combined business will have operations in five states and Canada, including seven cultivation and processing facilities and 23 operating dispensaries serving both medical and adult-use cannabis markets.

Looks like this rendering is from before the building towards the right burned down. I wonder if they are going to rebuild it as it looks in the rendering?

The WXYZ map is upside down... North is to the bottom of the map... so the complex will be on the same side [south] of Michigan Ave as MCS, but on the other side of I-75/I-96.

Hmmm... those 8 storefronts on Michigan Ave... what would work there?

How about a 7-Eleven, a Pizza Parlor, a Subway's, a Candy Store, a Mr. Bulky, a Sanders Shop, a Panera's, and [for more healthy options] a Fruit Market.

I assume they wanted to highlight the redeveloped Michigan Avenue frontage, so looking at it “upside down” makes sense. But it is a bit confusing that way.

Sounds like a great project to me. I like the job training and placement program.

maybe they will also put in a Cheesecake Factory?

when they started passing the weed laws it was portrayed as small businesses would be able to open, now it is becoming controlled by the few legalized cartels.

No, Plum Street "was" on the site of today's MGM Grand Detroit Casino.

You can blame that partly on the state, counties, towns and cities. You need pretty deep pockets to navigate all the red tape you have to go thru to get a location. Most cities in SE Michigan have opted out of allowing a non-medical Marijuana dispensary in their cities.

There are so many roadblocks for people who want to start a non-medical dispensary, that it requires legal help.

    From Ann Arbor's Michigan Daily...

“With cannabis, all the obstacles you face are on the front end,” Moroz said. “The obstacles you face are getting through the licensing process, getting the cities, the communities, the counties and the states to sign off on your ability to be a licensed and recognized establishment.”

Opening a small mom and pop recreational dispensary is virtually impossible. But if you have the deep pockets of a corporation, you can navigate that easier.

Retired cop guides Arizona seniors as medical cannabis coach

As medical marijuana has become legal in much of the U.S., more senior citizens are starting to use it to manage pain and opioid addiction. In Arizona, one retired police officer overcame his own personal biases to become a medical cannabis coach. He now teaches some of the state's elderly population how to use medical marijuana for the first time. Arizona Public Media's Andrew Brown reports.

CassTechGrad, you realize there's plenty of room for both marijuana dispensaries AND food banks, don't you? It's not an either/or situation.
In fact, one brings in tax dollars, one costs them.
Assuming taxes are spent appropriately [not guaranteed], dispensaries should help ease food insecurity.

With all the blowback from cities around the greater metro area that refuse to allow a Cannabis Store... this Corktown mega-location should get a lot of visitors from all around metro Detroit and beyond.

This facility will be built in the former home of Detroit Electro Coatings.

anyone interested is a little chromium with their thc?

Other than that, I’m a huge fan of this project. A new industry, rehabbing an abandoned structure, create jobs, fill a need … what’s not to love? Even if you aren’t a pothead, this project proves the assertion of the original proposal: folks consume marijuana so why not tax it, create jobs with it and enjoy the benefits of coming out of the shadows.

When pot was against the law, there was a never ending cat and mouse game between law enforcement and marijuana users.

If this old building was to be used by a pot factory in the bad old days, it would have remained an eyesore and would have attracted other illegal activity.

Soon moms in minivans will be rolling up in their sweet rides.

    Gotta love capitalism.

Anyone notice the Marijuana Complex will be across Michigan Ave from the ever-popular Detroit Highwaymen Clubhouse and smoothie bar?

I can't get a sense from the current info whether they're planning to rehab that whole gorgeous front block on Michigan as part of the $175M projection. That part [[especially the corner building that just had a fire) on top of the industrial portion, would be absolutely transformative.

Looking at this just a few blocks up from MCS, and looking at the land just beyond down Michigan Ave where this concept could be repeated, these hyper-local mixed-use campuses feel like the perfect play for reactivating the near west side.
