Default Harper Woods man pleads guilty to elaborate Casino identity theft scheme

We're in what I call 'The Age of No Secrets'. There is so much data about all of us floating out in the world's networks combined with easy digital manipulation tools, such that even amateurs can concoct a scheme like this guy did. Interesting read as in this snippet...

"After he left the casino, security found [in a casino restroom] clothes, a mobility walker, a Nissan car key, two Michigan driver's licenses, and approximately $11,000. cash in the restroom Colletti had exited. The licenses had the information of actual Michigan residents with altered photos and sticky notes on the back with victims' Social Security number and telephone number.

To operate casino kiosks, which allow users to exchange tickets, break bills, and process jackpots, gamblers are required to insert their driver's license, and then enter the last four digits of their Social Security Number and the last four digits of their telephone number. According to investigators, Colletti targeted VIP Preferred Program casino patrons as victims by purchasing their personal information on the internet and then had fraudulent driver's licenses manufactured in the victims' names.

Following his arrest, a search warrant was obtained and executed by Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribal Police on Colletti's rental car, a Nissan Versa. Inside the vehicle, they found four prosthetic face masks, flash drives, 83 driver's licenses, 14 insurance cards in multiple names, six open water diver certification cards, two Binghamton University staff ID cards, 19 players cards from various casinos - the majority from MGM Grand Casino.

On the flash drives, investigators found forgery documents, background checks on various individuals, tutorials and manuals on how to counterfeit money and commit various other financial crimes, handwritten signatures, and excel spreadsheets with more than 1,000 names. The spreadsheets containing the names of individuals also included each person's associated personal identifying information. including date of birth, Social Security number, phone number, address, place of work, bank routing numbers, bank account numbers, and monthly salary.

^ I could see John Malkovich doing this role great... think about how weird and clever he was in In the Line of Fire!

egregiously unethical, but a fascinating read. I guess the typical issues were at play for why he kept on going instead of stopping at a certain point.
