    Default Porky Running Detroit!

Eh, I once live in the Woodbridge area and there was the sound of rooster nearby in the wee hours. But now we have a pig in the neighborhood!

Anyone else seen farm or otherwise undomesticated animals in their area? Pheasants not counted! They're everywhere! LOL!

There was one running about in Harper Woods before!

^ One of my family elders had property in the Clarkston/ Davisburg area and there was a small Llama farm near by - a hoot see driving by!

I guess it's a thriving industry of sorts! Apparently they can tolerate our winters! Probably very well!

Woodland and Sanilac, my old neighborhood. When we moved to H.W. in 1970, a neighbor had a pet pig. It was a huge white/pinkish one. He used to walk it on a leash. Never heard him making any noise.

The house at Elizabeth and 8th has/had geese in their backyard. Not sure if they still do. I haven’t been by there in awhile.

There are a few farms in Michigan... use in general where they are kept globally seems to vary including livestock pets, guard stock, and even harvesting their fur for sale though Alpaca fur tends to softer:

One local organization has held Llama fests:

On another forum my neighbors here in southern Nevada are complaining about rattlers and scorpions in their yards. I think pigs and llamas would be a pleasant alternative.

You've obviously never been spat on by a llama.

Back in the 60s a giant hog escaped from the slaughterhouse in Utica and somehow made it safely across Van Dyke. It made it into the ditch in front of our house before getting hogtied by a couple of ragged pig wranglers who had been chasing it. It was quite a spectacle. I had no idea hogs could get that large but of course they're fattened before slaughter.

    The slaughterhouse is long gone.

So yeah, these things happen. And they're impossible to forget.

Same thing they're used for in other places, their fiber. Llama are sheared like sheep and alpaca, although it's not a job I would want. The fiber is spun into yarn, usually very soft and expensive yarn.

I hope someday a state fair can be in the city limits again...
