No, the Republicans were just being polite. The "rebuttal" immediately after simply rehashed some of the distortions that he addressed in the speech, like cutting Medicare benefits and such even though Obama stated categorically that he would not allow that.

Tomorrow it'll be back to partisan politics as usual. Limbaugh and Hannity and O'Reilly and Beck will foam at the mouth about this dire threat to take over the world in the name of Godless Socialism, bats will be back with his usual Obama delenda est! motif, Palin will continue to spout nonsense about death panels and euthenizing her baby, and Pharma and the AMA will continue to pay lip service to reform while working to undermine it behind the scenes.

But I was impressed with his directness and clarity. Finally we have a president that knows how to speak in public.

I couldn't believe the Republican's response speech. It's like the guy wasn't even listening to the address. He said Obama is advocating that people must buy insurance within their state when Obama never said that, and even indicated that such requirements were causing limitations on choice. There were some other things too, like he said Obama didn't mention some Republican ideas that were good and he named a few, at least two of which Obama had mentioned. I guess he wrote the speech yesterday and forgot to update it after the address.

Oh, yes, the LIAR yeller was South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson. John McCain was on Larry King after the speech and said it was completely inappropriate and the rep should apologize.

It was Representative Joe Wilson, Rehtuglican from South Carolina, big surprise there.

This freak of nature did more to make the president's point, and help usher through health care reform than just about anything else in the last few weeks.

I guess we should thank him.

The Rethuglican response was an experiment in canned spam if ever there was one, and done by a "doctor" from Alabama, Dr. Charles Boustany, a heart surgeon, who's been indicted twice for malpractice, and once was scammed for buying the British noble title of "Lord".

He admitted to being defrauded by these scammers selling British peerages. Gee, do some doctors need to be brought down a notch or two?

Shall we now refer to him as "Dr. Lord Charles Boustany?"

Would you want this "doctor" performing your heart surgery?

The President said that everyone was going to have to buy insurance although some individuals would be getting tax credits to offset their purchases. The Insurance companies won't be going out of business. They will be very profitably expanding their coverages to include more people and conditions. "That's why under my plan, individuals will be required to carry basic health insurance just as most states require you to carry auto insurance."

MSNBC has fingered Rep. Joe Wilson [[R- S.C.)-- heretofore to be known as "Joe the Plumber's Ass"-- as the no-account, classless boor who had the unheard-of audacity to holler a cat-call at the President of the United States during an Address to the Congress.
Biden looked like he was ready to get up and kick the guy's ass, right then & there, in front of an enormous TV audience spread across the major networks.
I gotta think that performance will not even go over very well in Wilson's own home state. What a jackass.
And yeah, I would say that even if it had been George W. Bush-- who I passionately loathe-- speaking.

The doctor was talking to another doctor and I overheard her say that the woman told her she didnt have any id or insurance because she was here illegally.

She was turned away because it technically was not an emergency.

That was barbaric.

It was a home-run, a beautifully crafted, cogent, clear and concise explaination of what is coming, and calls on the carpet the freaks of the Rethuglican Reich for what they are, which is a bunch of girly-men shouting "You Lie" and groaning like old whores in heat.

A tour de force of oratory. The call for a public option is what sealed it for me, along with the resolve to make it happen, in spite of the prickish opposition from the frothing masses of toothless guttersnipes slinking around on the right side of the aisle.

While I don't agree with the heckling and felt that it was uncalled for, Pres. B.O. is being very ambiguous with the illegal alien claim [[and many other of his claims, too).

While the federal government will not pay for their care, under EMTALA, hospitals cannot kick them out either.
