Default Detroit Style at the DIA - Car Design in the Motor City, 1950–2020

There currently are two outstanding Detroit-themed exhibitions at the DIA [Detroit Institute of Arts], Detroit Style: Car Design in the Motor City, 1950–2020 and a photo exhibition of Detroit images by Russ Marshall which I show in a separate thread.

Detroit Style: Car Design in the Motor City, 1950–2020 currently fills the second floor Modern Art galleries with fabulous concept cars, drawings and paintings by Detroit designers. [Reminder, due to pandemic restrictions, you must first go online and make a reservation to be able to visit the DIA].

Detroit genius and creativity at its best!

    Pretty cool

Here is the back story with Harley Earl who smashed Henry Fords, you can have it in any color,as long as it is black concept.

Interesting how the times influenced the designs, the Art Deco period, the jet age then the space race, you do not see that anymore.

Those cars were like buying a piece of art work.

We enjoyed this long-awaited exhibit on a recent Sunday morning [[timed tickets, temperature check, moderated gallery capacity...perfectly safe!).

Nice to see the cars and design drawings and associated art in a chronological presentation.

Wish we could be there to see that exhibit. At least I bought the book. We did see the original Detroit Style, Automotive Form 1925-1950 exhibit at the DIA in 1985.

For those interested in Harvey Earl and GM, there's an excellent book titled Fins by William Knoedelseder.
