    Default Penobscot Building conditions update

    https://www.freep.com/story/money/bu...it/4438365001/

I knew a slumlord owns it but had no idea conditions are this bad.

Unbelievable! There is no excuse for these violations.

When Lowell and my late friend Tony Pieroni owned the Michigan Building [[until 2015), Tony would talk about how well maintained his elevators were, and that he even paid a year in advance for his elevator maintenance services.

There is no excuse for lack of elevator maintenance, except negligence on the part of the building owner.

Sounds like this building owner is waiting until his building is shut down or condemned by the city.

Another sad aspect of this building is the SAD state of the torn American flags on the outside of the building. The way they are kept is a disgrace to city of Detroit and the US.
I really wish Bedrock could buy this building and save it.

This piece of trash should have never been allowed to buy this building.

For those who don't know this is the owner, the same trash who owned the silverdome and let it rot. This is a very old photo of him so he likely looks uglier now. Also fun fact, he tried to demolish the old bank building next door for a parking garage but the city refused before Bedrock bought it and now uses it as event space.

It's time for Dan Gilbert to buy the Penobscot Buildings and its two connecting building's too.

I understand Gilbert based on his history is obviously the 1st name to come to mind, but if the city is really making any kind of comeback surely it's an opportunity for lots of others from inside and outside the city. Bedrock has more than enough on its plate right now.

We need some contact info for his company to start an email or phone call campaign. Either fix it up or sell.

This lazy article in Canadian Business makes it sound like they made their development money off successful redevelopment of the Silverdome and Penobscot. Obviously the author didn't take the time to investigate anything. They are building a casino/hotel complex in Pickering, just east of Toronto. Construction is well underway.

What else is he waiting for? An elevator to give loose full of people? What an irresponsible person. SLUM LORD deluxe!! Does he own homes in Detroit too? Or is that too beneath him?

Has to be horrid to work in maintenance there having to look the other way.

Trying to demo the old bank building really angered me. I actually went to the public forum at city hall and probably 20-25 people railed against it. It was great to see.

Keep in mind he did demo that really lovely 2-3 story building across Michigan from the Book Cadillac for...surface parking.

Oh, and I love how he's currently trying to raise rent. Just an awful, horrible stain on downtown he has turned out to be.

People like him are a shit stain on humanity. His goal is to suck as much blood as possible, just like the Morouns.

Apparently the scumbag wants at least 100 million for it, so it’s probably more likely that it ends up being condemned than sold.

Michigan Central sold for 90 million to Ford and that was a literal ruin. Penobscot is in the center of downtown and office space is at a premium. Although I'm not sure exactly how much land was included in the train station deal.

He doesn't deserve a single fucking cent but I wouldn't be surprised at it selling near that.

Crains says he was offered 70 million for the building in 2019 but he refused.

He bought it for $5M back in 2012 timeframe. You'd think $70M would be enough, considering he hasn't put any $$$ into the place.

Please email info@penobscotbuilding.com to let them know of your disgust with how they are managing this downtown landmark. The info@tripleproperties.com email didn't work for me.

You'd think so, but not in his mind. You're dealing with a filthy rich greedy bastard, no amount of money is truly enough.

^ Yeah, but you've never seen a Brinks money truck following a hearse. I've been to a couple of funerals lately and it sobers you up to have your paper-work in order. No matter who you are, or what moneys or possessions you have.

Interesting the tripleprop. didn't work because that's on their main website. Obviously they don't want to be contacted. You can always try the Toronto phone number. I'd call collect.

Dan Gilbert was probably blocked from purchasing this building due to someone in city allowed the current owner to purchase the Penobscot which probably included some kickback. Allow Gilbert to rescue this building from the slumlord who currently own it.

Coincidentally Lafayette Towers were sold to Greg Jackson in 2012 for only 5 million from the city who owned it. Believe me some palms were probably greased that allowed this loser to purchase the Penobscot and more palms are being greased to allow him to operate the building despite violations

It's wild to me that it sold for so little in 2012, DetroitYES should have pooled money together and bout it ourselves and made a 1000% profit.
