The intense Whitmer hate some people have is beyond deranged. I dont remember people coming for Snyder's throat for literally poisoning a city and forcing those unconstitutional emergency managers. Not a single peep from these rural nutjobs and conservative suburbanites.

While I usually eschew whataboutisms I think you effectively showed the duplicity of a certain segment of Michigan’s electorate by using concrete examples and language.

I've voted Republican for every gubernatorial election in Michigan since I've been eligible. You'd think that I'd be right there on the anti-Whitmer bandwagon. But I'm not. I think it's outrageous.

People think she's actively TRYING to shut businesses down? That she WANTS jobs to be lost? Or that she ENJOYS seeing families struggle to take care of their school age children all day?

Come on. Get real. When she ran for and won the election, this isn't what she signed up for. People think she is on some power trip, wielding her sword, and loving the power. I'm pretty sure that she's not enjoying any of this.

I work in the healthcare industry. I don't work on the front lines. I'm in an administrative role. But I'm involved enough to know that the stories on TV about people dying, about how when you go on a ventilator you more than likely won't come off, about how nurses and doctors watch people die and spend every minute afraid of dying, that's all true. Every single bit of it. That's not Whitmer on TV exaggerating anything.

Bottom line, she's trying to do what's right for the state. Does it mean that she actually IS charting the best path? Heck, I don't know. None of us really do. But to think that her intentions are rooted in some form of evil, that she's doing this and laughing maniacally in the background, give me a break.

So to those that want to impeach her, what would happen next? She leaves and this all goes away? Or the next person up would have all the answers? Do we just 'opposite George' the entire thing and do everything 100% different and expect that will solve everything?

I don't know about impeachment, but she is ignoring the supreme court order, and that sets a pretty dangerous precedent, imho. If she wants to save humanity, like satiricalivory says, she needs to pass a law in the legislature to do it, that's pretty much what the supreme court said, and what the legislature is trying to get her to do.

These executive orders effectively throw a large segment of the population under the bus [[hospitality/restaurant/retail workers, working single moms, etc. ) and these people, like everyone else, should have their say on how to implement effective safety measures. That's how democracy works.

I was hoping that this is something that both cheerleaders for the blue team and the red team [[I am neither) should be able to agree on. Does not seem that way though from the comments above.

Actually, no, she isn't. The Supreme Court said that the MDHHS has the right to make decisions regarding epidemics and that is who is making the decisions.
The entire issue is that the Republicans sitting in the house don't like having a powerful woman in charge and they want her GONE, so they use their positions to stir up their base by not supporting her. Shirkey is the biggest piece of human slime that is based in Michigan and you can bet that any impeachment talk leads directly back to him and Lucido. Lucido will soon be out of the legislature, leading Macomb County, so he needs to get his digs in now.
If you don't know who Shirkey is, find the photos of militia men with guns in front of the Statehouse the day they announced the terror attempt on the Governor and look for the white haired guy in the suit. He's there with his buddies behind the attempt; tell me that if they dug a little deeper into this, he and a couple others in the legislature wouldn't be involved.

Look I don't like those guys either. But we are a country/state of LAWS. The legislature AND the governor need to get together and hash it out. Because they've forgotten the most fundamental freedom of all, the freedom to live. Snyder denied this freedom to live to the residents of Flint, whereas Whitmer is doing her best with what very little she has, to save thousands of lives from a deadly virus. All other freedoms are essentially meaningless if you're dead. Unfortunately too many have given into the temptation of a death cult of narcissism and nihilism. And so he said "I will happily kill my family just to go to Applebees when I feel like it."

yeah sure i agree but who is enforcing those recommendations? who is going to arrest the gym owner who stays open? That's when you need the 1945 Emergency Powers act, which was struck down. Replace that with a new law and I am happy.

Whitmer has my support. Our hospitals will be full by Christmas, probably sooner. We need to do something to save lives and buy us some time until we can get the vaccine to the most vulnerable.

How does stereotyping rural residents as "nutjobs" bring us together? Even "basket of deplorables" is less pejorative.

Detroit's only role in the Flint saga was to raise the price of Flint's water so high that elected Democratic officials in Flint voted to provide their own water.

If she just threw a few concessions out there, giving some businesses a little flexibility on allowing them open, it would silence most of her critics and show that she’s willing to listen and try different ideas. All politicians are influenced by politics when they make important serious decisions, but I can’t see what that would be in this case with the shut-down! And by the way, Snyder isn’t any more responsible for that mess in Flint then Whitmer is responsible for the dam failure this year. Bureaucratic administrators are in charge of that kind of stuff. Here is the list of "rules" from Sunday night. I don't see a "shutdown" listed. Some businesses are restricted for 3 weeks. They are ones that crowds gather at and are being restricted. Restaurants can remain open for carry out and outdoor dining; gyms can be open for individual use; hair salons, barbers, etc are still open. It's only group settings that allows virii to spread more readily that are closed. Manufacturing is open, stores are open, nurseries are open, daycare is open, etc, etc.

• High school classes must now be conducted remotely.
• College classes must now be conducted remotely.
• Work must be done remotely, unless the job absolutely has to be done in person.
• Indoor dining is no longer allowed at bars and restaurants.
• Organized sports are no longer permitted, with the exception of professional sports and a select number of NCAA sports.
• Group fitness classes are no longer allowed.
• Theaters and movie theaters must close.
• Stadiums and arenas must close.
• Bowling alleys will be closed.
• Ice skating rinks will be closed.
• Indoor water parks will be closed.
• Bingo halls will be closed.
• Casinos will be closed.
• Arcades will be closed.

Has there even been one State whose legislature has approved a shutdown ? I know there's plenty that circumvented lockdowns.

I keep hearing this Republican mantra about how mental illness is effecting people under lockdown. How about health care workers being forced to work 16 hour days or 7 day weeks ? How would you feel if they protested this situation by walking off the job so they can spend time at home safely during the Holidays with their families like you're being asked to do ? Are you willing to step up and replace them as quickly as you're willing to go out to eat ? gamble ?

During the 1918 pandemic, people were also dealing with a World War and government imposed food rationing. If you bitched or protested, President Wilson would lock you up.

Umm, I think there's an assumption out there that only the so-called top-of-mind 'militia' right wingers [[up-north) are the only people less than happy with Whitmer. Not all Detroiter's are jolly about Whitmere either!

For one, she won not by the greatest margin in Detroit [[Shri Thaneder almost beat her!) and there's concern re. her 'handling' of the water shuts-offs in Detroit, the Flint Water crisis she inherited, the proposed closing of Benton Harbors one high school, etc. beyond, and before the COVID.

Sure there was some obligatory circling-of-the wagons when she wanted our support when she and Trump were sparing. But the wagon-circling was not without condition. She knows this per certain Detroit bull-horns in the media - loud and clear.

If people are that unhappy with Whitmere they best start considering a better candidate now - rather than later.

Hosptial's are becoming overwhelmed. Look, my BIL has 32 years in at St. John main. When the pandemic hit in the spring, he said he's never seen anything like it and as we were warned, it's happening again. Health care workers are testing positive. Who's going to take care of patients when the health care workers are getting sick themselves? He also said the majority coming in testing positive are "non-mask wearing" and "students that play school sports". Makes sense since schools are starting to go full remote. My nephew, his son, is at Troy Beaumont...same scenario. His daughter, tested positive a few weeks ago, works at Mt. Clemens General. So not sure why this recall crap is even a thing.
