Default Groundbreaking for the Complex 444, Mixed-used Companion to Detroit Shipping Co.

I think this will turn out to be a pretty cool building. It's designed similar to Detroit Shipping Co, although the design has changed so I'm not sure how much will actually be the shipping containers. It seems to be focused on small local businesses, and should be a good companion to the very popular Detroit Shipping Co.

If you check out their Website or Instagram, they have quite a few businesses that have already signed on.

The Once Detroit's Second Chinatown is now coming back alive with gentrified steel truck structure.

It seems the design has gone through a revision, looks much better.

Does building on an empty parking lot in an area with many empty parking lots count as gentrification?

Agreed, the design does look much better.

Maybe not, because nobody is being displaced. Or maybe yes, to the extent that an upscale project on vacant land leads to increasing rents and displacement on other properties? I guess it’s debatable.

This is ridiculous, so no city can build anything or make progress without it being big bad gentrification. Utterly absurd, completely insane.

Take a chill pill, or two or three. And re-read my post. There was a question as to whether building on vacant property could be construed as gentrification. I said maybe no or maybe yes, depending on how one looked at it. Without making any judgement as to whether said “gentrification” was good or bad.

Since the Complex 444 is in what was once Chinatown they should call it something else since the number 4 is bad luck in some Asian cultures since it means death. Not that Chinatown is coming back there anytime soon, but it is kind of like having it called the Complex 666.

That area needs some good gentrification. 4 or 5 solid blocks of "Cass Corridor" left behind the Masonic that need to go.
