A tremendous round of applause to Dan Gilbert & The Bedrock Team for restoring this gem. It's been a long time coming but should provide an outstanding anchor to the west side.

The Chinese owners from DDA couldn't do it. So they sold the building to Gilbert and look at the results.

The exterior lighting at night is really incredible. It adds a really nice presence to that part of downtown.

More like didn't want to do anything, the Chinese buyers were completely speculative. They had no intention of ever renovating Detroit buildings.

I wonder what they did with the in-tact woodwork from the offices. Freep posted pre-reno pics and it looks like there was a good amount of the original interior in tact on the upper floors.

Also, how cool is it that downtown has a 2nd rooftop pool now!?!

When we're thinking about the credibility of Gilbert, think of all the projects like this. I think too often we focus on the big shiny ones like Hudson and Monroe Blocks.

Increasing the amount of people living in and the jobs in the CBD is crucial to success in downtown Detroit.

They're not as tall but so what? Smaller developments occupy a much bigger footprint, and re-activate a much bigger part of the city.
