Default Riverwalk from Downtown to Belle Isle -- the End is in Sight

One of the most popular projects ever in Detroit will likely see the completion of the riverfront walkway from downtown to Belle Isle next year.

Work has begun on a $2.9 million project to clean up an area of contaminated sediments in the Detroit River in the downstream area from the Belle Isle bridge--where the massive UniRoyal tire plant once stood. With that done the final missing link can be completed connecting downtown to Gabriel Richard Park [located just east of the bridge].

That opens many interesting option, like biking from Eastern Market via Dequindre cut to Belle Isle. Great news!

Great news! Very cool to see our paths and greenways slowly being connected into one giant network.

Does anyone know when the Ralph Wilson Centennial Park on the west riverfront is supposed to begin construction?

I heard construction of the park has been delayed, will probably start spring next year.
