Default New [rehab] Royal Palm Hotel - Tapestry Collection Hotel by Hilton.

DetroitSoldier found this in the Freep the other day, and posted it onto the Grand Circus Park thread, but no one commented. It deserves a thread of its' own.

It appears that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, some new developments are still being developed in downtown Detroit.

This is going to be developed in the Park Avenue House hotel building [[now vacated of its' residents) at the NW corner of Park Ave. and Montcalm St., as a 172 room upscale Hilton hotel.

This building was owned by Sean Harrington's family [[he owns the Town Pump Tavern). I don't know him, but he's gotten some bad press lately.

The $50 million development is due for completion in 2022 as an upscale hotel. I've never been inside this building, but it appears that it will be nicely restored/remodeled.

One thing that is a plus for this future posh hotel is that just across the street is the [[Chuck Forbes owned) Colony Club Building. This building has some spectacular banqueting space on the 3rd and 4th floor. On the two story 3rd floor is a magnificent Louis XV Grand Ballroom [[with a 3rd floor mezzanine looking down onto the ballroom). On the 4th floor right above it are 2 spectacular smaller Petit Ballrooms. It would be awesome for the hotel and Colony Club to have a joint partnership to share these magnificent spaces, as well as the other wonderful interiors.

Here are some great photos of the Colony Club... which could be much more than just a wedding venue, if shared with the hotel...

Too bad that the Ilitches bulldoze everything they own... had the Hotel Wolverine survived the 1999 Comerica Park demolition derby... it would have made a great 17 story hotel right next to Comerica Park.

Always calls for more hotel rooms in the CBD, anyone noticed any movement on this project? This website shows the status as "abandoned" updated in 2021.

Lot's of media on the evictions, then the Hilton announcement, then noting for almost 2 years.

^ I had heard that another upscale developer was going to take over the project...

This is the Crain's Detroit page mentioning another new owner, but nothing further [Crain's allowed me to view just the first part of the article before the firewall]...
