Gratiot road repair

I had notice work being done in the middle of Gratiot from the Vernor to St Aubin. It appear that a median or some sort had been cut into the middle of the street. Does anyone have a clue to whats is being done?

I saw this too. It almost looks like they are extended the median up Gratiot. Which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world because that center area isn't really even a turn lane or anything, it's just sort of empty space. And now with the Dequindre cut being there that area is busier so maybe the median is supposed to calm traffic and prevent people from turning illegally.

Someone had a wild theory years ago saying parts of Gratiot in that area have some type of sensor devices planted under the street

Planted by the French in 1967. They were planning a takeover of the area at that time. But they've viewed the Google Street Views since then and decided against it.
