Default Beaumont HQ: staying or going?

Beaumont Hospital is looking to merge with an out of state organization.

Yes, I know they are suburban based, but Beaumont is still very much a large Southeast Michigan based employer. So what does this deal mean for leadership? Obviously the hospitals will remain, but what about the HQ? Another loss for the state?

Definitely not a good thing in my opinion. The previous "merger" that Beaumont completed [[i.e. with Oakwood and Botsford) regionalized the health care system more, in the sense that they were the bigger fish expanding. Even when Beaumont was going to "merge" with Summa health in Ohio, it would've been a similar acquisition for the health system, before the deal fell through.

Advocate Aurora is fair bigger than Beaumont, and I would suspect there would be some shifting around of employees... not to mention a watering down of patient care, which always seems to happen with these mergers. Our healthcare system is so broken.

What alternate universe are you living in? We have President Trump now...

If you believe this has anything at all to do with the Affordable Care Act... then maybe you could elaborate on exactly how?

    Agreed. But unavoidable.

As we pile on complexity, we encourage consolidation. Every new regulation requires compliance effort.

At some point, Advocate Aurora [[which itself appears to be an amalgamation of Advocate and Aurora) will become Syergielum or some other entirely meaningless brand.

I tried to learn something about Advocate Aurora -- and found that their website is a marketing festival where real information on the corporation isn't to be found under, say, 'about'. You just get more pretty words devoid of content like, where is your headquarters? What areas do you serve?

I too would like to hear how Obama is to blame for this despite not having been President for over 3 and a half years now. Do you have any rationale other than "Black Man Bad?"

Try reading his posting history to see his enlightened positions on racial issues and form your own conclusions. I've seen enough of his posts to form my own opinion. If you don't agree, fine. My opinion of him stands. Took me all of five second to go back and find a post of his where he refers to an undocumented immigrant by the ever-clever hypothetical name of "Jose Illegal." If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Advocate based in Downers Grove, IL
    https://www.advocatehealth.com/newsroom/corporate-overview/
Aurora based in Milwaukee, WI https://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2015/04/10/aurora-health-care-adding-toheadquarters-office.html

Aurora is all over WI. Advocate is mostly Chicagoland. Ascension is their largest competitor in WI.

And our resident Russiagate conspiracy theorist, as usual, has derailed this thread into another political soapbox for their neoliberal views...

In any event, as far as Beaumont, I'd be more concerned with their quality suffering. They're the only halfway decent health care system left in Metro Detroit.

The only upshot to these mega mergers is their own damn bottom line. They have more negotiating power with purchasing supplies and payments to insurers. Consumers always lose out and quality of care suffers.
