jiminnm, Perhaps so. I know that the Supreme Court once refused to hear the case so the draft was allowed to continue during the Vietnam War. If the Supreme Court said that black was white, that 2+2=5 or that the Emperor had a great set of clothes, that would be the law of the land or at least until there were justices on the court who could collate the dictionary with the Constitution.
Two words "Involuntary" and "Servitude". Their dictionary meanings are not complicated. Combine that with the 13th Amendment. There are a lot of things that the Court has to rule on because the Constitution is vague or seems to contradict itself. This is not one of those situations.
