That was the headquarters and stables of the DPD's mounted unit for many years. Decades ago there was a much larger police station building standing next to it.

The original 9th Precinct was there. It was eliminated along with the old 3rd Precinct [[Hunt St.) in a 1954 DPD reorganization.

Actually, the old 3rd Precinct [[Hunt St.) and old 7th Precinct [[Chene & Canfield) existed until 1960. The consolidated 7th Precinct at Mack & Elmwood opened in 1960.
